IF Music presents You Need This – A Journey Into Deep Jazz Vol. 3
Founder of London record shop IF Music and vinyl hunter extraordinaire, Jean-Claude drops the third glorious volume of his compilation series ‘A Journey Into Deep Jazz’ on BBE Music. True to the album’s ‘You Need This’ tagline, Jean-Claude has once again dug deep in his personal collection, emerging with an eclectic yet coherent selection of jazz sounds. Skimming the list of featured artists, such as James Brown’s former trombonist and musical director Tyrone Jefferson, Hungary’s all-time great jazz guitarist Szabó Gábor István, Czech band Jazz Celula and India’s Jazz Yatra Sextett, gives a sense of the album’s global scope. From rare cover versions of classics originally penned by Dizzy Gillespie and John Coltrane to original Japanese Mambo via an Afro-centric hip shaker made in Hungary, ‘A Journey Into Deep Jazz Vol. 3’ travels all over the map in search of sonic bliss. As Jean-Claude puts it: “by now you are all aware of how this works: a collection of obscure and rare jazz nuggets that have gone underappreciated for years and need to be given their day in the sun. This time ‘round we have managed to license a host of prime club joints to rock your dance-floor, as well as a few gentler moments for the more sedate of you out there.”

Lampen’s sophomore album “Halogen” immerses the listener in a hypnotic, slow-burning sonic world. This Finnish duo, comprised of guitarist Kalle Kalima and drummer/percussionist Tatu Rönkkö, draws inspiration from drone-metal pioneers Earth and Australian minimalists The Necks to forge a captivating sound that transcends genre boundaries.
Octava is a thoroughly meditative and enchanting journey into the soulful, immersive instrumental world of Phi-Psonics. Bask in 45 minutes of gentle bass, soothing woodwind, subtle electric piano, and dulcet drums. For an optimal experience, use this as your go-to companion during a quiet night-in, morning commute or meditation session. However, if you really want to enhance the impact, play it loud through a quality system. Trust me; the results will be even better!
Brilliant new album from multi-instrumentalist and composer Sélène Saint-Aimé. Conversations inspired the writing and recording of this record with her paternal grandmother retracing their family history, life, childhood memories, and the strength of Caribbean women. Check out her debut album as well.
