Kingdom Hearts Expanded Worlds (Part 1)
This an idea I've had in my head for YEARS!
One of the best elements of Kingdom Hearts III was the presentations of its worlds.
With the Unreal Engine 4, they really went out of their way to the make the worlds feel FAR more massive than before.
Not to mention more alive with the inclusions of ACTUAL NPCS outside of characters from the movies represented.
Though out of the worlds, two of the stand-outs were Olympus and The Caribbean.
Largely because these were expansions of previous worlds: the long recurring Olympus Coliseum and Port Royal.
And by GOLLY, did they out-do themselves!
It was genuinely amazing to get to see more of the world of Hercules outside of The Coliseum: with Mount Olympus, Thebes, and The Realm of the Gods.
The only location we ever got to see from the actual movie prior to this was with The Underworld in Kingdom Hearts II.
And for The Caribbean, while we did see Port Royal again, most of the world is taken up by The High Seas, where you actually got to sail across vast ocean with your own pirate ship, exploring various islands and undersea caverns.
Ever since playing KHIII, I've been wondering what other Disney worlds would like with Unreal Engine III.
Particularly previous worlds.
So today, I wanna discuss how I think the previous worlds of Kingdom Hearts could be expanded on.
So sit back, grab a snack, and let's dive in!
Disney Kingdom:
Not much to say here.
Disney Kingdom would essentially be combination of Disney Castle and Disney Town, serving as the two main areas of this world, featuring the same lay-outs they had before.
In terms of the party's appearances, this will be one of the few worlds where that doesn't change.
Yeah, I figured that for future KH games (and in my upcoming fanfic Kingdom Hearts Adventures), the characters will be sporting different looks in most of the worlds they travel to.
This kinda help them blend in more into their new surroundings.
Also because let's be real, it would just be really cool.
As for the NPCS featured here, it would be the characters we've seen before in Disney Castle and Disney Town.
There would also be some new faces like Webby, Gadget, Monterey Jack, Zipper and Roxanne.
I could see Disney Kingdom essentially serving as a main home-base world, like Traverse Town and Hollow Bastion.
As for the enemies selection, it would be the same as it was before.
And lastly, we have the world speciality.
Essentially each world has a special feature to it, just like the worlds in KHIII did.
And for Disney Kingdom, that would be in the form of mini-games, seeing the return of Fruitball and Rumble Racing.
Wonderland:
This world would essentially be on massive area, similar to San Fransokyo, under the name......Wonderland.
An expanded version of Wonderland would feature all the areas from its depictions in the previous games, with a few new areas like The Meadow of Living Flowers and The Lake of Tears.
In terms of the party's appearances, they would all be wearing colorful Victorian attire.
As for the party members of this world, it would Alice herself.
Now I know most of you are wondering why the hell I would be including her as a party member since she canonically can't fight.
Well.....
Neither could Ariel or Jack Skellington.
One thing that Kingdom Hearts doesn't get enough credit for is being able find clever ways to have Disney characters that were not known for being combative to operate as party members.
Alice would be a magic-focused party member, with high MP, but unfortunately low strength, speed and defense.
She fights with a satchel filled with magical potions, that have differing effects on enemies and allies.
On enemies: She can wash them away with massive bursts of water, crush them underneath force-fields of gravity, and shrink larger enemies.
On allies: She can heal them and boost the strength of their attacks and magic.
And whenever her MP runs out, she attacks with swings from her satchel.
Her Team Attack would be Curious Clobber.
The attack would see Alice handing Sora an "Eat Me" Cake, which he proceeds to eat.
Soon enough, he grows to massive size, with everyone else hopping onto him.
Sora then starts performing a series of stomps and Keyboards slashes on enemies.
And the attack would end with Sora throwing his allies into the air, and who then come plummeting down and land on the ground, unleashing a massive shockwave and sending enemies flying back.
As for The NPCs: we would see The Mad Hatter, The March Hare, The White Rabbit, The Cheshire Cat, The Doorknob, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, The King of Hearts, The Caterpillar, The Walrus and The Carpenter.
As for enemies, it would be the same Heartless featured in the world's previous appearances, and The Queen of Hearts' card soldiers.
Yeah I wanted to give each world their own unique enemies outside of The Heartless.
As for world's special feature, it would be being able to shrink or grow yourself with "Drink Me" Potions.
This would allow your to explore the world in a new way and find all sorts of hidden goods.
And lastly, we have this world's Keyblade: Wondrous Insanity, which would have an emphasis on Magic.
The Keyblade would look pretty similar to Lady Luck, but with the blade would look like a geyser of tea, the teeth would be a tea cup, and the handle would be shaped like a spade.
Wondrous Insanity allows you to enter Guardian Form with its Formchange: Deck Deflect.
It would operate like Counter Shield, but the shield sports a playing card appearance.
Its attacks are practically identical, though for its Lightning Circle-esque attack (Card Circle), it would rain playing cards as oppose to electricity.
The same would also apply for its Shotlock: 52 Pickup.
When the shield is hit enough times, it can unleash Forceful Hearts, which unleashes a barrage of energy hearts at enemies.
And lastly, for its Finish, Sora would stick his Keyblade into the ground and cause a giant teapot to sprout out.
And after a little bit of shaking, it unleashes a tidal wave of scalding, hot tea all over the place.
Olympus:
I know this world was already expanded, but there are a few things I would like to add.
The layout is the same as it was KHIII, but there would be a new main area to explore: The Underworld.
Yep!
It would be returning for the first time since KHII, featuring the same sub-areas as well.
In terms of the party's appearances.
Sora, Riku and Kairi would all be wearing ancient Greek civilian attire.
Donald, Sabrina, Dipper, Star, Jackie, Alfonzo, Janna, and The Hexsquad would all wearing the attire of a hierei, which were what priests back in ancient Greece were known as.
Goofy and most of the other Royal Knights would be wearing Greek soldier attire.
Mickey would be dressed like a Greek king.
Lula would be in the form of a xiphos.
Marsupilami would be in the form of a small chimera, possessing a a largely lion-like look with goat horns and his tail would be an actual snake.
And Maurice would be in the form of a brown bear.
Hercules would obviously serve as your party member for this world.
He fights the same as he did in KHIII, possessing possessing high strength, decent speed and defense, but relatively low MP.
He utilizes punches, headbutts, ground slams that send out powerful shockwaves, spins with his xiphos, energy bursts, and picking up nearby heavy objects like boulders and pillars and throwing them.
As for the NPCs of this world: there's Philoctetes, Megara, Pegasus, Zeus, Hera, the other Olympians, Pain and Panic.
There would also be plenty of civilian NPCs in Thebes.
As well as animal NPCS, which can be found on Mount Olympus.
These would include deer, ibexes, eagles and bats.
As for enemies, it would be the same Heartless selection of last time.
As for non-Heartless enemies.
In The Underworld, there's souls and skeleton warriors.
And on Mount Olympus, there's various wild animals including vipers, brown bears, wolves, lions, leopards, lynxes and wild boars.
And lastly, for this world's special feature, we would see the return of The Olympus Coliseum!
Possessing the same appearance from the mod.
Like its predecessor, you'll fight through waves of enemies and bosses.
Though this time, with your party being so huge, you can choose who you want bring into Coliseum with you.
As for the bosses, it'll consist of monsters from the movie.
This would include the likes of Nessus, The Erymanthian Boar, The Nemean Lion, Cetus, The Minotaur, a Griffin, Medusa, The Cyclops, Cerberus, and The Hydra.
So be prepared to hear the long-awaited return of.......
Deep Jungle:
Just like Wonderland, Deep Jungle would one massive area under the name: The Jungle.
An expanded version would feature the same areas from Kingdom Hearts, although far more expensive.
And of course, there would be some new areas well.
These would include Pathways (A series of paths in the middle of the jungle that can lead to the different areas), The Nesting Grounds (where Tarzan’s gorilla family reside), and The Watering Hole (where the elephants were hanging out in the original film, which would replace Hippo's Lagoon).
In terms of the party's appearances.
Sora, Riku and Kairi would be dressed in early 20th century safari attire.
Donald, Sabrina, Dipper, Star, Jackie, Alfonzo, Janna, and The Hexsquad would be dressed as African tribal shamans.
Goofy and the other Royal Knights would be dressed as African tribal warriors.
Mickey would be dressed as an African tribal chief.
Lula would be in the form of a ikakalaka (a type of sword used by the Mongo people of The Congo).
And Marsupilami and Maurice.....would both retain their usual appearances.
As for party members, you'll get two in the form of Tarzan and Jane Porter.
Tarzan fights similarly to how he did in Kingdom Hearts, being pretty well-rounded in terms of strength, speed and defense, but somewhat low on MP.
He attacks enemies with slashes and thrusts with his spear, handstand kicks, and throwing his spear at aerial enemies.
Tarzan specializes in crowd control, being able to take out multiple enemies at once with an attack.
Jane on the other hand fills a more supportive role, possessing decent MP, speed and defense, but rather low strength.
She attack enemies with wacks from her parasol, swinging kicks from vines, opening up her parasol to deflect attacks, and open parasol charges.
She also heals allies with a special medley of jungle herbs.
Their Team Attack would be Bungee Bash.
Thr attack would see Sora being grabbed by his ankles and lifted into the air by Jane, who in turn is also being held by the ankles by Tarzan, who's holding onto a vine by his feet.
The attack would see the trio bungeeing all over the battlefield, smashing and crushing enemies along the way.
The attack would end with the trio using the vine to tie up some enemies and then release it, sending them flying high into the air.
As for NPCs: there's Terk, Tantor, Professor Porter, Kala, Kerchak, and Manu.
There would also be tons of animal NPCs as well.
These would include gorillas, elephants, Fischer’s lovebirds, grey parrots, fish eagles, butterflies, hippos, bongos, rhinos, giraffes, giant forest hogs, marabou storks, peafowl, chimpanzees, frogs, colobus monkeys, okapis and forest buffalos.
As for enemies, it would be the same Heartless selection from last time.
As for non-Heartless enemies.
This would be in the form of animals such as leopards, baboons, pythons and crocodiles.
As for the world's special feature, there would be three.
The first one would be the return of the Jungle Slider mini-game from Kingdom Hearts.
The mini-game would see Sora, Tarzan, Jane and two other party members of choice surfing along tree branches and swinging from vines, utilizing Flowmotion, all while avoiding obstacles and shooting down Heartless.
The second feature would be the ability to ride animals, specifically elephants, rhinos and storks.
They can be used to clear massive obstacles, take down enemies at a faster rate, or reach areas that hard to do so normally.
And the third would be another mini-game called Safari Shoot, where you have to use your Gummiphone to take photos of specific animals.
And lastly, we have this world's Keyblade: Primal Fury, which would have an emphasis on Strength.
The Keyblade would look pretty similar to Jungle King, but with the blade would look like a tree branch wrapped in vines, the teeth would be the sharp teeth of a leopard, and the handle would look like the skin of a python.
Primal Fury allows you to enter Strike Form with its two Formchanges: Gorilla Fists and Pachyderm Boots.
The first sees Sora's Keyblade transforming into a pair of mechanical gauntlets, resembling the fists of a gorilla.
This will allow him to perform powerful punches and uppercuts, and send shockwaves by clapping his hands.
The second Formchanges sees the fists transforming into a pair of mechanical boots resembling the feet of an elephant.
This will allow Sora to perform powerful kicks, stomps that send out powerful shockwaves, cause tremors to send enemies, and even send waves of earth towards enemies.
Its Shotlock: Feline Fatale, would see the Keyblade transforming into a pair of mechanical claws akin to a jungle cat, with Sora performing a series of rapid slash attacks.
And lastly, for its Finish, the Keyblade would transform into a Ngoma drum, which Sora proceeds to play, summoning a massive herd of jungle animal spirits.
The herd then proceeds to stampede, trampling all enemies in its path.
Agrabah:
Agrabah would be split into four main areas.
The first main area is The City of Agrabah itself, which would consist of the areas seen in Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II.
The second main area is The Palace, which consist of the following areas: The Courtyard, The Throne Room, The Dungeon, and The Garden.
The third main area is The Desert, which consists of The Sandswept Ruins and Ruined Chamber, and a few new sub-areas such as The Oasis and The Canyon.
And the fourth and final main area is The Cave of Wonders, which consists of the areas seen in KHI and II.
In terms of the party's appearances.
Sora, Riku and Kairi would be dressed in Arabian civilian attire
Donald, Sabrina, Dipper, Star, Jackie, Alfonzo, Janna, and The Hexsquad would be dressed as viziers, similarly to Jafar.
Goofy and the other Royal Knights would be dressed as royal guards, similarly to Razoul.
Lula would be in the form of a scimitar.
Marsupilami would still look the same.
And Maurice would be a massive baboon.
As for the party members, you'll get two in the form of Aladdin and Jasmine.
Aladdin fights pretty similarly to how he did before, possessing decent strength and defense, high speed, but somewhat low MP.
He attacks enemies with quick slashes with his scimitar, often through rushing and leaping attacks.
Aladdin specializes in taking out one enemy at a time, but quickly and efficiently.
Jasmine is a similar boat to Aladdin when it comes to stats, though her speed is a bit lower.
She attacks enemies with a wooden staff, often through wacks, swings, quick jabs and spins.
She can also attack aeriel enemies and pole vaulting herself to kick them.
Jasmine specializes in crowd control, being able to take out multiple enemies at a time.
Their Team Attack would be Sandstorm.
The attack would see Sora, Aladdin and Jasmine hopping aboard The Magic Carpet, and flying around enemies so fast, it creates a massive sandy whirlwind that sucks them all up and sends them flying.
As for NPCs: there's Genie, Abu, The Magic Carpet, Iago, Rajah, The Sultan, Zena (Aladdin's mother), Razoul, and The Peddler.
There would also be plenty of civilian NPCS in The City.
As well as some animal NPCs.
You'll find sheep and goats in The City.
Elephants and doves at The Palace.
Falcons in The Desert.
And camels in both The City and The Desert.
As for enemies, same Heartless selection from the previous appearances.
As for non-Heartless enemies.
There are bandits, vultures, and jackals out in The Desert
And down in The Cave of Wonders, you'll face off against scimitar-wielding skeletons, bats, scorpions, cobras, and living Shiva statues.
As for this world's special feature, it would be a mini-game known as Rug Race.
It would see you, Aladdin, Jasmine, and two party members of choice flying on different courses on The Magic Carpet, having to make it to the end by a limited amount of time while avoiding obstacles.
The courses would include The Palace, The Sandswept Ruins, and The Cave of Wonders.
And lastly, we have this world's Keyblade: Cosmic Wish, which would have an emphasis on Magic.
The Keyblade would actually be the same one that was used by Genie in Kingdom Hearts II.
Cosmic Wish allows you to enter Element Form with its Formchange: Stellar Staff.
Sora's Keyblade gets turned into a staff, which allows him to perform different kinds of ranged attacks, each one based off one of the planets.
These would include massive fireballs (Mercury), rays of light (Venus), a rain of metal shards (Mars), spheres of crushing gravity (Jupiter), a spinning ring of boulders (Saturn), bolts of lightning (Uranus), and freezing ice beams (Neptune).
Its Shotlock: Mist Mayhem, would see Sora summoning cosmic smoke to ensnare enemies.
And lastly, for its Finish, Sora would lift the staff into the air, summoning miniature versions of the very planets his attacks were based on, and have unleash a massive barrage of fire, light, metal, gravity, boulders, lightning and ice onto enemies.
Well that's all for now!
I had a lot of fun with this post.
I'm definitely planning on making a series out of this.
Though more specifically, talking about what future worlds in Kingdom Hearts could be like.
And the very first part for that will be out next month, in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of a Disney classic!
So until then, stay tuned!
