things that do not count as needing to use a backup keyboard according to etho:
- had it 'forever'
- spacebar broken
- the rubber spring on his D key was completely sheared in half and therefore unusable. for now he has fixed this by taking the spring from a ballpoint pen and cutting it up to replace the broken spring. it's a little firmer than he'd like but he's sure he'll "get used to it." this is preferable than getting used to a new and fully functional keyboard.
