“DEEPRAWLINS”
By Hunter Creates
Storyteller Rawlins Gilliland, listed by Dallas Observer as one of the 20 most interesting characters in the city, said in 2015 he was coming off the best year of his life. He may be over 70 now but that hasn’t slowed down his sold out performances of soul-baring true stories from his life set to live music. Growing up in East Dallas it’s only natural that he become the subject of a mural in Deep Ellum. This wall on Crowdus Street at July Alley was painted by Steve Hunter, founder of Hunter Murals. Hunter studied illustration at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland and fine art at Newcastle College of Art and Design, and Hunter Creates works in both painted murals and large-scale mosaic projects, often with community participation. @huntercreates @deeprawlins @deepellumtexas @scenesfromthesidewalk
