I've had this idea floating around in my head for a while now, but I'm having a hard time fleshing it out. I have characters (just the crew of the ship), the solar system they're in, and the races (not really races, more like what people from the planets call themselves), but I don't have any plot worked out. I don't know what they do or what happens or anything really. Any suggestions?

Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry, this got completely buried in my askbox and I’m not sure how that happened!

I think the best suggestion I can give you is think of a conflict that they would deal with.  Are they smugglers?  Are they pirates?  What would they be smuggling?  What are they trying to steal?  

My best advice in a situation like this is to start with the conflict and then see if you can build that into a plot.

Hair (in place of head): What hair color looks best on you and what’s your natural color?

My natural color’s brown, with a bit of red when I’m out in the sun for a while. I’ve been considering dying my hair deep blue for a while though, and I think that might look pretty rockin’.

Skin (in place of shoulders): Do you tan easily?

Omg no I don’t! I went to Florida over Spring Break, and I barely tanned at all. Back in high school I played tennis during the summer, and even though I didn’t wear a lot of sunscreen, my tan was only noticeable from the paler bits under my watch and on my feet. I was born pale, and I’m gonna die pale, it’s my fate.

Knees: Have you ever cheated on someone?

Never ever ever. I’ve only dated two people, but cheating is never ok. I mean, I have a hard enough time forming connections with the people I actually date, finding the energy to do that with multiple people at the same time? No way.

Fingers (in place of toes):Do you play an instrument?

Not anymore, technically, but I’ve played the bassoon since 6th grade (that’s 7 years). I should really get back into it, because the bassoon is fucking awesome, even if solo pieces are a bit boring.

Eyes: What is your favorite show to watch?

SUPERNATURAL! Enough said.

Ears: How many piercings do you have (if any)?

I don’t have any piercings. Honestly, I find the idea of making a hole in your body really disconcerting, so I doubt I’ll ever get any.

Mouth: Do you want to kiss anyone right now?

Hmmmm, interesting question. Normally I’d answer yes, because one of the fun parts of having a boyfriend is getting to kiss a lot but...I’m just not feeling it recently. Which probably has to do with my depression and how he hasn’t actually expressed much interest in spending time with me lately? Or I could be super misinterpreting things due to my hating myself and the world in general right now. So yeah.

Nose: What is your favorite perfume/candle fragrance?

I do not have one, like, at all. I guess I like things that smell like vanilla? Or apple pie? I don’t know, smells that are clean and fresh. I really like the smell of rain, aka petrichor.
