Besides the obvious (Shy’s Really Bad No Good Day aka the latter half of chapter 3), Shy’s worst and most humiliating memories revolve around moving to the UK. His mother had taught him English but with a Canadian slant to it. He was determined to learn British culture, which included mimicking TV and movies (with… mixed results, as you can imagine). He also had lovely long hair when first he moved there, which, in conjunction with all the other “strange” qualities he exhibited, became a target for mockery and bullying.
He was attacked by his bullies, his beautiful long hair messily cut. He cried and cried long after they left, and when he got home, he lied to his devastated mother that he “wanted” to cut his hair. She chided him for not just asking her to take her to the barber, and helped to shave the rest of it off...
