Quote by Karen in Episode Five of Brian Jordan Alvarez’s The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo, a complete series available on YouTube. The dialogue is as brilliant and funny as only the best conventional TV shows I’ve ever seen. The representation is unmatched-- the cast is composed of people who look not like the culturally-designated-attractive people we see in movies, but rather like the people we see and know and fall in love with in our real lives. The language used to describe them is frank: they are beautiful. And why shouldn’t they be? Conflict and drama in the series is not a product of malice or antagonism, but rather of too much love and affection, of necessary communication. Without exaggeration, this genius series has ruined TV and movies for me; why can’t we write, and represent, and explore more like this? Page 39
