calloused fingers gripped around the neck of the bottle of shine he’d procured as he lowered it from chapped lips with ragged sigh. he was not the man he used to be. he’d become like atlas carrying the weight of his sins and misdeeds upon his shoulders, awaiting a proper moment for a self-sacrifice that would bear meaning.
he’d found a place within the ark’s ground-fallen remains to burrow away in his own mind.
he’d passed the crown to abigail griffin with deliberation and self-hatred escaping his lungs like a toxin; he could barely bring himself look at her after what he’d put her through. as though he didn’t deserve to. and perhaps it was something forced upon him, but he still could have stopped it, he could’ve done more. but, he was weak to the necessity of sending a message; of setting an example. his drinking had not been that bad after the genocide, it had picked up after his mother’s death --- but it was limited when they were in space. and now on the ground? he was spiraling out. he was seeing things that he tried and pleaded with himself that they weren’t there. hallucinations brought about by self-destruction; and the shine most likely.
