Defining Times – “Swan Dive”
Pairs Well With…The Shins, Coldplay, Aqualung
Dramatic rock band Defining Times runs the gamut from hushed piano ballads to uplifting, shiny indie rock throughout their latest EP Separate Tongues. Before I attempt to define Defining Times, the outstanding production work done by the band, with an assist from Michael Trepagnier, is completely worth noting. Defining Times has that grand, Viva-La-Vida brand of rock and roll, focused on creating tense rhythms and melodies that break out into majestic choruses. If that was the end of the story, I’d probably move on after a couple songs, but Defining Times allows presents an ambient side to their music on half the tracks on Separate Tongues, which really holds up especially in relation to the largeness of the songs on the opposite side of the scale.

After listening to my mega SXSW mix en route to Austin, it was decided that Morning Parade was going to be one of our must-sees. We caught them one early afternoon at The British Embassy and they did not disappoint.
