In celebration of National Siblings Day, we’re taking a look at some popular Depop shops run by sets of siblings! After the break, we talk to Stolen Stores, Degreesof360, The Hidden Base, and The Gentleman about what it’s like to collaborate artistically and run a business with not only a friend, but a relative. You better keep reading or we’ll tell mom.
Stolen Stores
Sisters Por Siri and Onarin run one of the most visually well-branded shops on Depop, Stolen Stores. What’s most impressive about their shop, however, is that they successfully run it from opposite sides of the world, with Por Siri in Bangkok, Thailand and Onarin in NYC.
Por Siri: “Even though me and my sister are halfway across the world, our business, Stolen Stores, connects us. We both have different ideas of how the world works, but that just makes us more interesting, and that’s what Stolen Stores is really built on. We challenge each other to do and be better. Business only gets more valuable when you’re building it with your sister. #StolenSister”
Onarin: “Since I was little, I’ve always looked up to my sister. Being the younger sister makes me so happy that there is an inspiring role model for me to follow. My passion, as well as my enrollment in Parsons The New School, has given me the means to make impactful contributions to our business. Working together gives us the opportunity to inspire each other everyday, and that‘s what keeps us growing.”
Degreesof360
NYC-based brother and sister Katie and Austin run one of our favourite new shops on Depop, Degreesof360. D360 sells outrageously well-curated vintage, as well as original pieces and artwork.
Katie: “Creating 360 with my brother has opened up so many new ideas for my personal style and art. We usually agree most of the time and always manage to laugh about something while shooting.”
Austin: “Collaborating with other artists has always been a passion of mine, but when the artist is my own sister, the experience is effortless. Already knowing and understanding each other’s own visual aesthetic and work ethic makes our process much more efficient. From art to fashion and everything in between, I’m so proud to have my sister as my business partner.”
The Hidden Base
Twin brothers Gavin and Bradley are a true Depop team. They drive to their suppliers and handpick the streetwear they carry in their shop, The Hidden Base, together and have managing their shop together down to a science.
Gavin: “I really enjoy working with my brother on our Depop store. Even though we have our slight disagreements, we have the same vision and respect each other’s opinion. This helps in our decision-making and has contributed to the success of our store.”
Bradley: “My older brothers are a big inspiration to me. They have always had a strong interest in street wear clothing and have been brought up around this has had a big influence on my fashion interests and helped shape the Depop store we have today.”
The Gentlemen
The Gentleman is another (!) shop run by twins—19-year-old brothers Lorenzo and Valentino. Don’t let the bilingual bio and Italian names fool you; Lorenzo and Valentino are based in Staffordshire, England where both study illustration.
Lorenzo & Valentino: “Depop is a big thing in our lives. We trade on the app to earn money, which pays for driving lessons and board, as our dad insists on us not living on his fruits of labour. We try to get as many unique items as possible for Depop, really, as it has a unique audience who are really into their fashion. Mainly, it means that we can do what we really enjoy, easily and safely.”
