Interesting Deidara Notes:
As requested by @hidendumbassvillage
Deidara is left handed, or at least has a preference for his left
He apparently has a sixth sense related to his Keikei Genkai? (More on that in a moment) He’s able to “detect magnetic fields” in the ground and polar objects, allowing him to use a technique we don’t actually get to see him using (but is mentioned in his data extras) where he can dig through the ground like a mole (Earth Release: Hiding Mole - I think they had Tobi use it in the anime?) by converting it into silt/sand, without ever losing positioning or reference point on his target because he can sense the (electro?)magnetic field around them. he’s basically a sensing type that’s not actually a “sensing type” per whatever weird rules Kishi has for that, cause he’s not listed as a sensing type in his books or canon at all.
Speaking of his bloodline limit, let’s talk about that… because it’s a bit confusing?? Canon does not explain this well lol.
Ok so let’s start with what it IS: The ability to mold lightning and earth releases simultaneously. Which creates Explosion Release bc those normally don’t go together.
WHAT IT IS NOT, IS THE MOUTHS 👄 Nope, those are apparently a part of the Kinjutsu (forbidden art) he stole from Iwa that lets him mould his chakra into, in his case, clay. THE MOUTHS ARE FROM THE KINJUTSU. NOT HIS BLOODLINE LIMIT! Good on you for only making that clear in an interview, Kishimoto. But yeah, the mouth thing is permanent, we can assume, since he came back with it too.
Apparently his blood type is ALSO AB! (As is Kisame, Itachi, Nagato and a bunch of others, including Sasuke!) Kishi why do you love this blood type so much (can’t disagree tho, he definitely has the quirkiness and hyperfocus lol)
Deidara is the youngest member of the Akatsuki at 18/19. He’s recruited sometime around 15, we think, because Kisame notes that “they haven’t recruited anyone that young since you [to Itachi]” and he also remarks that Deidara is the type to die young.
Speaking of, while Deidara’s beef with Itachi is pretty obvious, this does not extend to his partner lol. Deidara is actually very respectful of Kisame.
In fact, Deidara is pretty baseline respectful of everyone? He’s fairly polite, really, but in that boyish way you’d expect from a young teen, which is further emphasized by his habit of ending his sentences with that random -un! Which is very much a juvenile-coded thing boys do to try and sound cooler. Of all of them I’d say he acts his age the most.
On a darker note, Deidara is the last surviving member of his clan. As confirmed by the Tsuchikage. We don’t know if his last name, Midorikawa, (lit. Green River) is a real name or a pseudonym he took on for protection, but he doesn’t seem particularly bothered by the fact he’s the last one, so we can infer that he probably didn’t grow up around them.
If you haven’t read the Akatsuki Hiden with Deidara and Sasori going to find clay at a pottery village, please do, it’s a great read. But insofar as it accurately informs us of Deidara’s character, he’s not good at empathy or reading people. Not that that’s news, but it’s terribly apparent in the light novel/short story for them that unless he has a compelling reason to, he just doesn’t care about other people’s past, pain or problems. He doesn’t really focus on the future, either, preferring a Live in the Moment approach to things.
He IS good at understanding his environment, though, and using it to his advantage; topographical ability is a specialty of most Iwa-nin because it’s all mountains over there, but Deidara really applies that knowledge, not only in finding clay deposits, but calculating his explosions around the topography, understanding the blast radius and how it ripples and doubles back off of hills and mountains, which he demonstrates when taking out the town hall. Deidara is actually a decent strategist, poor impulse control notwithstanding, enough even to earn Sasori’s praise, he simply lacks experience.
Deidara likes fish, especially sea bream, and salty food, and hates sour foods; his least favorite food though is risotto/rice porridge.
I can’t think of anything else atm. Thank you for requesting this, it was fun. :)
