[8:38 am]— Caramel coated your tongue as you slipped into the bookstore, sighing at the warmth that enveloped your cold figure. Outside, rain pelted down on the shop’s windows, as if it was upset that they couldn’t soak into your skin and bring you misery any longer.
“It’s bad out there,” commented coworker!Dejun when he emerged from behind a tall bookshelf, pushing an empty book cart into the back room.
“Tell me about it,” you sighed, following close behind as you shrugged off your jacket. Thankfully, you had checked the weather before leaving your apartment and had grabbed a raincoat just before the clouds started to cry. “I almost slipped while running here.”
Dejun dusted his hands together, grabbing a box filled with children's books that had recently been shipped in. “Why didn’t you take a cab?”
“I like to walk.” You shrugged, holding your arms out for him to dump a load into them. “Plus, the rain is nice sometimes.” You turned on your heel and made your way over to the display windows, neatly positioning the picture books in a way that caught the warm glow of the store’s lights. You straightened your posture and dusted off the debris on the display before glancing out the window to see a brilliant arc of colors stretching across the sky. “Look, Dejun! A rainbow!”
Your coworker popped his head out from where he was working in the back, a smile spreading over his features as his eyes followed your pointer finger and settled on the vibrant colors that appeared like clockwork after rain. “It’s pretty,” he said, coming up behind you and gingerly placing his hand atop your head. When you made no shudder of discomfort or asked him to remove his hand, he ruffled your hair. “And just like a lucky charm.”
