#403 #DelegateTasks As I get older, I'm doing it more, especially at home. If I see something that needs to be done rather than just do it myself, I'll call one of my kids to help me do it. For example, one of our cars had a flat tire the other day. I was going to do it by myself, but then I thought about who was home. One of my daughters was. So, I called her outside to come and help me. It ended up taking longer than if I would have done it myself, but she learned a useful life lesson, changing a flat. Now, I also told her she could call roadside assistance to get help, but it's still good that she knows just in case. I've done the same thing with my son when replacing parts in our older car. He's helped me with that, too. While the examples above are for your home life, you can also apply this in your professional life, especially if you are a team lead or manager. Delegate tasks to others so that they may learn new skills. It keeps them interested in the job and challenges them. Don't do everything for them. If so, they will be too dependent on you and you are not going to be able to take a vacation because you're the only one who can do the tasks. Teach others and have them practice. Oversee them, correct them when necessary and provide positive reinforcement. It's worth the effort.
