listening to The House Witch by Delemhach audiobook and AAAAHHHHHHH i'm loving this shit :,) i wish it was gay but alas in my head theyre all queer it's fine bahaha , such a fun book, I hope the rest in the series are this lovely

delemhach's the house witch series follows a loser house witch (finlay ashowan) with an attitude that ends up as a royal cook right before a war starts! theres romance, theres politics, theres beautiful world building, there three books in the first series! its free on kindle unlimited!

the next book in the series is the princess of potential which takes place twenty years later and follows the princess of daxaria's attempts at courtship! very silly, very cute, i hysterically sobbed multiple times!

then the burning witch trilogy about finlay ashowan's daughter, katarina, that takes place a year after TPOP! theres a raccoon thats as wide as a dog is tall here! his name is reggie!! also the literal devil?

and the most recent book, the ether witch: casting call came out LAST MONTH! about finlay ashowan's son, tamlin!

YES, this is propoganda! please read the series and become my friend because i think my friends are sick of me!!

My book club's first ever book has finally finished! (Coordinating schedules is a pain lol)

Overall a rather cozy fantasy. Not entirely on the similar level of like Legends and Lattes, but close enough. It was sillier than anticipated, but that added to the cozy vibes. In terms of a plot though, it felt like just a really long exposition sequence of individual vignettes stitched together to not necessarily world build, but moreso flesh out the main cast of characters.

Even with all the fleshing out, some of the cast felt flat. It was almost like watching an extended version of ratatouille, but without Remy. If that makes sense.

There were inklings of a potential higher stakes plot that would start to take root and reappear here and there, but it never went anywhere. I'm not sure if Delemhach is saving it for the rest of the trilogy, but I guess it still lived up to its promise of a decent cozy fantasy.
