Is Robert still active as Mecha, or does he have another job?
Is this after Robert’s coma? 😳 & if so is Flambae worried about how ill he looks?? 👀

i thought about robert still being active as mecha man, but without the suit! he tries to keep it on the down low, like a vigilante that people know from the olden days, trying to not draw too much attention. he can't help but try to make a difference, though.
robert does have a job to earn money (he has to pay dog food/rent somehow!), and i thought it could be something simple in programming that allows him to work from home and set his own hours (no idea if hacking and programming are anything alike... but he's good with computers?)
that said, it's set after the coma, because it gives it a little more breathing room in the story. it also allows me to say that robert's landlord thought he ran off or died when he was in a coma so they removed his stuff and sold his apartment. luckily, one of the neighbors took beef in, so when robert did return he at least had his dog, but nothing else. that is also why he urgently needs a new place.
(also i like it being after the coma to let robert suffer a little, and, exactly like you said, for flambae to gain his sad suspicions about what robert's life was like before)
chad goes into robert's new room after he's brought over his stuff, sees it has a sad pile of clothes, a pillow for beef, and a lawn chair, and naturally assumes robert brought the "basics" first (except the lawn chair, that's just weird). at first, chad doesn't say anything, he's not a u-haul company, he's not this guy's friend, and he's not going to haul this man's stuff around. then he sees that robert is already pretty tired and seems to have trouble moving, weak normie stuff, so, saint as he is, he insults robert and then offers to help him get his other stuff. robert just looks at him. "what other stuff? this is my stuff."
chad manages to insult-coax robert to the couch for at least a few days before getting his sister's spare mattress.
