“Hmm.. Ah, I know a good one! Ironically, it’s about smiling! When we were kids, I think around 14 years old, I was walking home from school with Osomatsu, and I was complaining about how I felt like a lot of people were avoiding me, and he said it’s because my neutral expression looks really intense and that if I smiled, I’d look more approachable and friendly! So from that point on, I always try to smile!”

He canted his head to the side slightly, giving the girl an unintentionally fierce look as he mulled over her words. He couldn’t say he’d ever heard the phrase before, but he could taste the truth of it like a bitter flavor in his mouth. Like the obscure tang that fills the air before a thunderstorm, love could very easily be seen as something otherworldly and intangible unless you’d already known it before.
And even then, after having known it, it could be just as ethereal and out of reach as a ghost to someone who had had love and then lost it.
Instead of saying any of that, however, he simply nodded.
“You seem a bit young to know so much of love.... Or exceptionally lucky.”

Link is, more than anything else, afraid that one day he’ll wake up and his saving of Hyrule will have been nothing more than a dream, that he died in that field and was never revived and he’s been having some kind of hallucinatory, I dunno, afterlife vision?
Basically he’s low key (high key) terrified that he’s not as good as everyone has made him out to be and that he will, or already has, let everyone down.
