Peer into my muses memories
Wild Card!
“Where’d ye get those?” The young minor peered over his shoulder to where Goldie walked in the tiny shack. She carried the usual bags she usually had when she returned from town, but this time she carried something extra: a small jar with little multi colored squares in it.
“Town, obviously. Where else am I goin’ to get candy?” She answered with a shrug that ended her sentence with ‘you idiot’.
“Well, please tell me ye bought it wi’ yer own money.” Scrooge placed his hands on his hips, but walked over anyway with curiosity as she set down her bags.
The blonde let out an exhausted “Uuuuuggghhh.” Before turning to him. “’Course I did. If you weren’t such a penny pincher I would’ve picked up some for you.” She huffed, placing the jar on the table.
“That’s a lovely thought.” He crossed his arms, glancing away as she went to set up the other things she brought back. The drake’s eyes fell on the jar. Goldie was going on, talking about … something that happened in town, something someone said to her, something she said to someone, but Scrooge wasn’t listening.
“Scrooge!”
“What?!”
“You’re staring at the candy? Like, staring.” She pointed out, and he quickly huffed and turned away. “What? You were staring at it like you’ve never had candy before.”
At that Scrooge grumbled, rolling his eyes and marching back over to sharpen his knife.
There was a silence in the room for a minute before:
“Ooooh, you’ve never had candy before, have you?” Came her voice.
“Of course Ah have!”
“When?”
“What?”
“When was the last time you had candy.”
“Doesnae’ matter. Drop it.”
“I want to know.”
“Woman, Ah said ‘drop it’!”
“Man, I asked you ‘when’!”
“Arrg!” Scrooge stabbed the knife into the table. “Ah was eight or so. My family was dirt poor we hardly had money for dinner every night, let alone candy! Happy?”
“No, not until you have a piece.” Goldie had walked up to him, leaning against the table and holding out her hand. In it was a little piece of taffy covered in a see-through wrapped. “Go on! I’m not gonna leave ‘till you have it.”
Scrooge eyed the candy, sighed, and took it from her. He unwrapped it and placed it in his mouth. “There, happy nao?”
Goldie giggled, brushing her bangs out of her eyes. “Is it good?”
Scrooge paused, then nodded his head a bit, not being able to force down a smile. “Aye.”
“Then I’m much happier now.”
