thinking about the fact that the events of deltora quest series 1 and series 2 were kicked off in the same way: with Jarred researching stuff in the palace library.
In Tales of Deltora (© Emily Rodda), it is shown that during the time of Adin, the land of Deltora has a distinctive winter season, marked by heavy snow that lasts for many months. However, the later timeline of the main 3 Deltora series shows no mention of seasons, or of snow. In Dragon’s Nest it is revealed that a set of weapons planted by the Shadow Lord at the extremities of the country, the Four Sisters, have been slowly poisoning the land, causing changes such as a decrease in soil fertility. No explanation of the weapons’ mechanism is given, except that they emit evil sonic vibrations. I propose that the Sisters’s songs work by slowly interfering with the normal functioning of Deltora’s biodiversity homeostasis and normal climate cycles (including seasonal weather variation) to cause long term environmental degradation. In effect, the Four Sisters are ‘climate change bombs’; they work in slow motion but have the cumulative result of cataclysmic climate collapse. In this essay I will argue
re: Doom’s “ol sense”... did he like have a trick that he wasn’t telling other people about? or did something happen to him in the shadow lands that actually gave him extra senses? or was boi really out there killing people based off Vibes, and it was just luck that he never messed up ?
just thinkin about how its possible that the Shadow Lord knew who Doom was and knew about his past, and may have specifically instructed Dain to appeal to the gentle, loving family man that was underneath all the trauma and anger and bitterness.
also like. if doom is well known to the ruffians of deltora and everyone is afraid of him, presumably the shadow lord and his servants at least know his name, but like Doom still enters the rithmere games without using a pseudonym. what a power move.
also thinkin about how the Resistance definitely had other fighters formidable enough to be guaranteed to make it to the rithmere games finals and then be able to throw the match, yet Doom still intentionally put himself in the position of having to fight in a gladiatorial arena again
shoutout to Jalis oral culture for singlehandedly preserving the memory of deltora’s early and pre-history
Do we know how many monarchs there were between Adin and Endon? Do we know how many chief advisors since the first one?
