1 Your muse making mine some hot chocolate
Rory was sitting on the couch, Amy curled up under his arm having drifted to sleep with the warmth of the fireplace. River had come for Christmas this year, which was a beautiful surprise. It was strange, but she was their daughter despite all those years of lost parenthood. At least she was here, but it was getting into the early hours of the morning and he was being kept awake by the idea.
River entered and handed him a cup of hot cocoa, “This should be the other way around,” he said after thanking her, keeping his voice low as to not wake Amy. It was different for her, she would’ve made a great mother no doubt but it was Rory who had always dreamed of having a family.
“Every Christmas, I can’t help but think about how things might of been if it weren’t for Demons Run,” he started. staring into the firelight painting the room a warm colour, “Seeing you as a toddler, face lighting up Christmas morning as you unwrapped gifts, and letting you eat candy for breakfast,” he couldn’t even imagine what the horrors of River’s younger years might of been, considering what she had been reared for… “I wish I could’ve done that for you Melody,” he said, looking up at her, “I wish I could’ve been a Father for you,” tears glistened in his eyes for all those lost years. It wasn’t fair, it never would be and maybe all things considered…things turned out alright in the end, but it would never be those simple family moments that he had always dreamed of.
