⋯ A TRIP FOR LEISURE
Rare was it for the Lady to find time to herself. Often she was tugged in one direction or another, demanded to perform tasks ill-fitting for her position and status. Not that it mattered much to those who held prejudice to mages; their unfortunate abundance in the military made it hard for her to act as she wished, even if she was an Imperial Tactician.
Today was not theirs to take, however. Dawn came and called Luxanna awake, giving her the hours needed to prep herself and her horse for her venture beyond the walls. Excitement bubbled within her all through her preparation, from when she collected food to bring to when she finally began to saddle up Sabine. The idea of being as far from the Royal City as allowed made her giddy, bringing her to smile despite the nasty glares she received from some of her companions in the barracks as she made her exit.
It didn’t take long to reach the borders of the Royal City and to venture beyond, the path from the grand gates leading her through rolling hills and gorgeous greenery. The fresh, morning air tickled her skin and for the first time in what felt like forever, Luxanna felt alive.
Blonde tresses whipped around her face as she rode faster, nearing the small town that made up her first stop. When she came upon its entrance she slowed Sabine to a walk, patting her trusty steed’s neck to offer it her thanks.
The town was still waking it seemed, save for the early rising bakers and merchants readying their shops and stalls for business. If it hadn’t been for her packed lunch, the Lady surely would’ve fallen victim to the delectable aromas of fresh food.
Sabine finally came to a stop at a hitching post located outside Luxanna’s first destination: a library. She smiled widely to herself once she slid off Sabine and began tying their reins to the post, retrieving her satchel from where it’d been held against her horse before making her way towards its doors. A hand reached for one of the handles - only to find that it was still closed.
Sky blues searched the immediate area for someone to ask and landed upon a figure who seemed to be approaching the library, too. “Excuse me,” she said, smiling sheepishly as she raised a hand to wave. “May I ask if you know when the library opens?”
