The Blacklist s01e02 The Freelancer
How did Miwani and Kamau know each other? Are they under an agreement that Miwani is below Kamau/has less control of the pride?
I didn't put much thought into it other than implying that Miwani was taken into the pride by Kamau and Dembe, and that's about it. I won't really be exploring that pride aside from what is shown in comic.

"I was hoping for a somewhat more dramatic entrance, but what the hell."
tldr the tom keen episode of the blacklist ramble
i just want to blab about this because this is my blog and I can
so! the tom keen episode in season 2 of the blacklist is so well done? I think the only thing I dislike is the scenes where they remind us if all the cases, feels a little like a throwback episode but other than that?? marvellous.
First of all, they are not making the issue of the harbour master dying go away as we often see in shows like this. no. she has to face the consequences of her actions, and she decides to lie and force Harold to also lie. but the truth does come out because tom keen didn't just kill the man to keep her from going to jail but also came back to say that he killed him to also keep her from going to jail, like he's so in love
Second of all, we like tom Connelly because he comes in and makes the whole thing go away, but! we accept that he's a bad guy, is he right about the judge having no right to question national security reasons? yes, but he's also an asshole because he's doing this for other reasons, also again, the truth is Liz did face grave charges, and she did do wrong, and they are not skimming past it or making us root for her, they are showing a complex situation and letting it simmer in our minds
Third of all, even if Keen doesn't go to jail for the whole thing, and no one faces any real consequences, she thinks of at least helping the harbour master's daughter. And then we get Raymond Reddington s amazing monologue about how nothing will ever be enough to make up for what she took from the girl and how all the nice gestures in the world are only selfish because you're trying to show yourself that 'see the thing I did is made up for it didn't end that badly' but the reality is that it is that bad, and nothing will make up for it. you can't fix it you can't run away from it. you have to live with it forever and let it make you better in the future. Just so good!! plus he's talking about how he abandoned Liz so it's a double monologue for the price of one
Lastly, you get the sense they are all just human, the heroes weren't heroic when something threatened people close to them or their job which is important but is it worth that? trying to justify a situation so the person you care about doesn't get crushed by guilt. some people use these situations to have leverage others will burn the world down to keep loved ones safe, but at the end of the day, these aren't good guys Vs bad guys, these are all flawed humans making decisions as they go, no backup plan just hoping it will turn out ok, while realising it's never going to be okay again
The police detective I feel so bad about because while I root for this task force and don't want them to shut down because hey they are doing important work, and yes the judge and police officer don't need to know all that. But this was the consequences of Keen's own actions outside of work and she brought all these people in there with her. The police detective saw the great injustice and there was nothing he could do about it but even him! even he looked into Keen's financials with no warrant because everyone is just human trying to accomplish what they set their mind to, without realising there's a way bigger picture at play.
At the end of the day, Liz could've brought Tom in, because the team had her back even after they realized what she'd done. She should've just trusted them. But I understand why she didn't.
I understand everyone's perspective and motive and I don't condone much of it. It's so well done and it made me think about it a lot as you see.
Me at the start of the episode: "Wow, they're really writing Reddington out of character to have him actually care about the environment when he's always had ulterior motives for even the best of his actions. I'll just skip through this one. Not sure why they had that weird cold open in Sierra Leone though, it's not relevant specifically and we already knew these guys were mass killers."
Me at the end of the episode: "What, no I'm not tearing up. I totally knew that Dembe's nationality being listed as Sudanese was a fake, why would someone so close to Reddington ever have their real history just handed over to the FBI like that? And actually I knew this entire time that this was a personal matter for Red. I'M NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING!"
