Hand sewn skirt project review
Right, so!
My first hand sewn project and I'm calling it a: SUCCESS!
Issues:
ㆍThe skirt is more like a wrap around strapless dress. Should have measured WAY more carefully before cutting. I did realize midway through, but I was too committed to the bit then to actually change it up. Besides, that might have been a little wasteful, and it doesn't really matter, because these are house clothes anyway.
ㆍBad construction. The pleating and gathering were only barely successful, this material really wasn't conductive to the pattern I wanted to use, so I had to pivot and pivot HARD. The stitching is thus, too messy, but again, not a big deal beyond cosmetics.
Improvements:
ㆍQuick work! Even for a skirt, hand sewing took TIME and I'm surprised I was able to do it in 3 days, especially because it's my very first.
ㆍGood cutting: Way less messy than my first attempts. Even the back stitch is less flip floppy and more aligned. Some of that is just the fabric, but I'm giving it a part of it to myself too.
ㆍImprov success: There were times where I was just making it up as I went and it did not ruin the final product! also a success, considering past failures.
All in all, I'm giving myself a solid..... 7.2! Not Bad, definately achived the final goal, but there's a lot of room for improving and learning. And because the stakes were low, not the end of the world when things went south.
