Ruby Bridges, Sixty-Two Years Later

Ruby Bridges was six years old in November 1960, when she broke racial segregation in Louisiana's public school system.

She was flanked by armed United States Marshals, to protect her from local protestors.

A child should not have to be a foot soldier against hate.  Yet, she was neither the first, nor the last.

It feels like the events of another age.  But Ruby Bridges is still alive and fighting for her convictions, as are some of the parents who railed against her.

The struggle is far from over.

Leadership by Design Symposium 2022

I enjoyed being part of the Leadership by Design symposium this past weekend.

It brought together hundreds of Black high school students, to discuss how they can exercise leadership advancing pluralism and democracy in Canada.

It was also lovely to catch up with my friend and fellow speaker Alvin Curling.
