Angels and Demons AU
Angels and Demons AU so warning for major character death (but it won't be wallowed in for emotional turmoil). They just needed to die so they can become angels and demons.
Hank and Gavin are partners on the force, they're involved in a high speed chase when their car is violently t-boned at a junction.
Everything goes black and Hank wakes up in a garden.
He's not alone, a young guy is sitting next to him serenely.
"Hello Hank, my name is Connor. I'm the angel assigned to you for eternity."
Connor looks angelic alright, he has white wings for one but there's no halo or curly blonde looks.
Because Hank is disoriented and groggy, he says as much and Connor looks away with a sad little frown.
But rather than reply, he gives a small shrug.
"Angels are in high demand at the moment. We can't all be perfect."
They wander around the garden a little as Connor fills him in on the rules.
Almost immediately Hank breaks a few, he swears loudly and watches as Connor shrinks away.
There's also no drinking, no sodomy, no violence. It all sounds like an eternal vacation from Hank's personal hell with nothing he enjoys doing on the menu.
"You were a borderline case, I had to plead very hard for you. Please don't throw this away."
Unfortunately Hank's mind is stuck on a different kind of begging from Connor.
They end up walking amongst other angels and their charges. The humans all look serene while the angels are unflinching, stoic and impassive.
They're so very different from Connor and Hank can't keep his mouth shut.
"As I said, demand is high for angels, sometimes our education and development is a little tarnished. I'm sorry I'm not up to your expectations, I will try better."
It sounds more like a threat than a promise and Hank dreads the idea of Connor becoming like all the other high and mighty idiots he's seen.
In the twilight of the evening, he pulls Connor towards the seedier end of town.
It's the demon's territory, Connor warns him.
They still end up in a bar, Connor's white wings stick out like sore thumbs.
The drinks are good though and Hank is merry, even Connor has a sneaky sip from a glass.
Hank eyes his wings which turn a little duskier with each gulp.
Together, they tumble out of the bar and Hank pulls Connor in by his tie for a kiss.
The air shimmer to something much warmer around them and Connor pulls away with a gasp.
"Hank," his eyes are wide, "I think I've fallen."
"It's a bit early to say this usually, but I think I've fallen for you too," Hank rumbles in reply with a soft blush.
Before Connor can clarify, a familiar voice is cursing up a storm around the corner from them.
"Gavin!" Hank cheers merrily. "You kick the bucket too?"
Hank, old man! The fuckers kept me in a coma for a few days before I finally bit it."
It's nice to see Gavin, but it's surprising to find he's tucked under the arm of a tall Connor lookalike.
But he looks anything but angelic, his teeth are a little sharp, there's an air of stern violence he radiates.
Quietly, Hank grins, he seems like the perfect match for Gavin.
"Well shit, you got deemed a goody two shoes?" Gavin nods to Connor who had been staring at his guardian with wide eyes.
"And I see you were anything but," Hank snickers.
"It seems that throwing a brick through Lij's window while drunk really doesn't count in your favour here. I still think I was doing the world a favour."
Their little reunion is cut short by Connor's sift voice.
"Nines."
"Brother. It would seem you strayed from the path," Nines' grin was slow and feral. A tail whips behind him.
"I wasn't strong enough to resist temptation."
At that, Nines' eyes fly to Hank with am assessing look.
"I don't think you were ever meant to be able to. Welcome to the dark side."
Both Hank and Gavin look over at Connor with concern.
"Oh shit. Was it the kiss? I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to pull you down with me. But the angelic ideas of fun were just killing me all over again."
Nines is the one to cut in before Connor could reply.
"There's nothing to be sorry about. He's gained his favourite brother back, got a potential lover our of it and a new lease in life. You'd better come along."
Nines turned and steered Gavin around, quietly preening at the way and arm had wrapped around his waist.
"It would seem I have not just Gavin but the two of you to show the sights to as well now."
