April Challenge 2019 Day 30
Super late and super short, but thank you @booyakasha516 for the idea!
“You will do as you’re told!” the demon stood tall, eight feet, nine if the horns were counted. His body rippled with muscles; his black leathery wings fluttered behind him in agitation. His eyes blazed with a blue fire and his sharp teeth grated against each other. Why did his son always resist him? He was weak. His body was small, muscles barely visible, his wings were hardly two feet across and his eyes! The eyes of his mother, shone with a radiant amethyst light. He pushed the boy and he tumbled backwards, barely keeping his balance.
His fleshy pink lips thinned out in a fine line, hiding the monstrosity of even white teeth. He should have known better. Better than to mate with an angel, but he would beat the innocence out of his son, one way or another. The boy stood tall, facing him without fear in his eyes. Good. Anger was always good for a demon.
“Bring me his soul! Do not come back without it!” he turned and walked away.
Yoosung growled deep in his throat. He loathed his father and hated his existence. He’d never known his mother, he assumed she had been a lowly demon, or even a human. The other demons stood well above his five foot seven stature and he worried that he was done growing. The fact that his father was one of the Council of Five, Satan’s closest advisers, meant nothing. It made him a larger target for harassment and challenge. A thing his father welcomed. As much as he hated his father, he hated himself more. His weak pathetic body. Soft and too white, with none of the ashiness that marked demon kind.
He gritted his teeth and flexed his wings, flapping them until he achieved lift. Then he propelled his body upwards, concentrating on moving through the hard rock of the cavern’s ceiling, his target clear in his mind. He wondered, as he often did, how he was able to travel between both worlds so easily when it took a summoning to get any of the other demons into the human world. His father ordered him to keep it secret, and so far, he had done just that. The demon had attempted to use his gift to transfer other demons, but it had never worked. Yoosung was unable to take anything from the demon world, except himself, to the other world.
He’d never collected a soul before and it was surprising that his father had ordered him to do just that. This soul must be important, and it made him not want to do his bidding at all. But what use had it ever been really? Every time he denied his father, disobeyed his orders, went completely against him, he had ended up on the losing end and his father had always gotten his way in the end.
He manifested in a small room, the man whose soul he was to harvest standing by an open window, the sun shining, making the red of his hair appear on fire. He stood taller than Yoosung slightly, the reddish hair down his neck, his shoulders broad, his back narrowing at his waist. He wore a simple white shirt, his jeans fitting snuggly around his backside. Yoosung pulled his eyes away from his body and noticed the book in the man’s hands. The gasp that escaped him made the man turn. He slammed the book closed, his back hitting the wall next to the window. His mint green eyes flew wide and they slowly faded to a softer amber. His jaw appeared unhinged as he gurgled thickly.
Yoosung reached the man in seconds and yanked the book from his hand. He cringed away from him, swallowing loudly.
“Wh…what…are…you…” he managed.
“You don’t know? Then what are you doing with this?” he shoved the book under the man’s nose. He blinked rapidly then turned away.
“I…don’t know. I only found it a week ago. You’re really a demon?” he asked timidly.
Yoosung’s purple eyes ignited and the man’s head snapped back, slamming into the wall painfully.
“Why? Do I not look like a demon?” Yoosung hated how petulant he sounded. He was supposed to be terrifying this human.
“N…I mean…yes…it’s just…” Saeran hadn’t expected a demon to look so angelic. He expected horns, not those stubby nibs that barely poked through the yellow silken hair. Red eyes perhaps, not amethyst gems that smoldered eerily, but not necessarily threateningly. Leathery wings, not golden plumed wings. He dared to look down at his feet and no, no hooves either. In fact, his feet looked positively pristine. There was an almost snake like appearance to his skin, but it was translucent and shimmery.
“Stop looking at me like that!” Yoosung snarled and clamped his hand around the man’s throat and began to squeeze. He pushed him against the wall and lifted him higher. His stockinged feet rattled as he kicked but he hardly struggled. With a disgusted snarl Yoosung tossed the man onto the bed and focused on the book instead. He’d heard of it of course. And he was certain this was the reason his father had had him come for this particular soul.
“You’re a warlock.” Yoosung accused.
“War…what? No, I don’t…” the man sat up and stood in front of the impressive demon, but he couldn’t really argue. Something had awakened in him on his twenty first birthday and it had led him to the book. He’d been studying it since then, the language had confused him at first but then had begun to make a strange kind of sense. Warlock. Is that what he was?
He stared into the eyes of the demon, the book between them. Something else was happening. Something more magical then his awakened powers.
