“You know each other?” Victor looked back and forth between them, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. He had been expecting Morgyn to scold him for housing a demon not to know said demon.
“Unfortunately yes.” Morgyn sighed out. “While I’d rather not associate with demons, I met Archer while working with Silas; he’s a familiar now.” Morgyn waved a dismissive hand, leaning back against the stairwall.
Archer dusted off his pants as he stood up and raised an inquisitive brow. “Wait, blondie how do you know gingersnap?”
“We’re cousins.” Morgyn replied for Victor, speaking as if it was obvious.
Victor hummed in agreement and shifted his attention back to Archer. Now that everyone’s relation had been cleared up, it was time to get straight to the issue at hand. Morgyn was the one who spoke first however, beating Victor’s want to ease into things; Morgyn never was one to beat around the bush. “Archer, victor told me you think Silas was murdered? Is this really about the book?”
As the mood in the air shifted, so did Archer shift his weight from foot to foot.
“Well...” he fiddled with the earring in his left ear. “I think so?”
“You think so?” Morgyn scoffed. “For f*ucks sake, it’s never simple with you is it?”
“But you told me that’s what it was! Now you’re going back on what you said?!” Victor yelled, feeling his frustration mounting to a boiling point. The demon had already turned everything Victor thought he knew upside down, and now he dared to take back those words? Victor was growing tired of these games and wished for the simple truth, no matter how painful.
“Okay, I don’t know anything for sure, no. It’s mostly speculation but with reason!” Archer rushed to get his words out as both cousins took step forward, surrounding him. It was actually a bit intimidating though Archer would never admit it.
“Spit it out then.” Morgyn urged archer to continue.
“Well you should know better than me! You guys were suspicious of someone weren’t you?” Archer let out in a huff, arms crossing in defense. Morgyn froze, letting everything sink in, various memories being recalled.
“Suspicious of what?” Victor asked, looking back and forth, once again wishing someone would simply just spill everything. “You never said.”
“Of dark magic, collaborating with some more evil force and wanting to start another demon war.” Morgyn answered gravely, face impassive. Victors paled.
Archer looked pained at the thought. “So, do you still have the book?”
“Yes.” Morgyn chewed on their bottom lip in contemplation, mind going a mile a minute. “I locked it up in my study, it’s well hidden and no one should know about it.”
“Good, keep it that way.” Archer turned to Victor, those golden eyes making him freeze. For all Archers playfulness, those eyes showed an intensity that made Victors blood run cold, a reminder of the demon before him. “You need to figure out who’s after the book before they strike again. And I doubt they’ll make the mistake of letting you live this time.”
