Denis Goltsov KOs Chase Gormley - ACB 77
With Ali Isaev out, I’m banking on Denis Goltsov (27-6) taking home that $1 million for the PFL Heavyweight playoff. To do so, Goltsov will have to get through his semifinal opponent, Croatian Ante Delija (18-4). That fight goes down this Thursday (August 19) on ESPN.

Corey Anderson stops Denis Goltsov in the 2nd with GnP
Woof, heavyweight is funny. Goltsov came out hot, trying to surprise Anderson with his size and physicality as the former 205er was making the move up. But once they tied up, it was clear Anderson was not only the better wrestler, but the better conditioned fighter. Anderson wore Goltsov down with takedown in the first before dragging him to the ground in the 2nd and getting mount. Elbows and the threat of the fight being stopped got Goltsov to move but it ends with Anderson with knee on belly, throwing bows. Ref stops the fight.

It took like 5 tries, but Denis Goltsov (36-8) finally managed to win the PFL heavyweight tournament in 2024. Sadly for the Russian sambist, that does not seem to guarantee him a shot at the lineal UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou who's future seems to be up in the air. Instead, Goltsov will welcome Bellator LHW champion and UFC alum Corey Anderson (18-6) up to the heavyweight division.
Goltsov and Anderson will face off this Saturday (July 19) at PFL Africa 1: Cape Town 2025.

Denis Goltsov submits Oleg Popov in the 1st round with a triangle choke from guard!
Popov going out like a true Fedor acolyte!
Popov immediately shot for the takedown, but could not create separation from inside the guard as Goltsov controlled the arms with overhooks. As Popov worked to get his arms free, Goltsov got his legs up and trapped the head in the figure four. Popov tried to defend but just ended up getting deeper in the choke til his stack collapsed and he went out.
Goltsov finally gets over the hump. 5th time around, gets 4 consecutive finishes to become the heavyweight champ. Goltsov is a dude who has been talked about as one of the best non-UFC heavyweights in the world for a minute. Like a full decade. I remember being on the WW thread on sherdog with people gassing him up in 2013/14. Happy he's got his million dollars and world title. He calls out Francis Ngannou for a fight next year and unless there's someone floating around out there with a bigger name than him, I don't see why not.
