Alexander Volkov vs. Denis Smoldarev - M-1 Challenge 64

Under Coker, Bellator seemed to put a quick end to the Russian experiment. Not even former Bellator heavyweight champion Alexander Volkov (25-6) was spared from the pink slip. So Volkov returned to the place where he cut his teeth breaking into MMA, M-1 Global. And in his very first fight back, Volkov managed to capture the recently vacated M-1 Heavyweight Title.

Now Volkov is set to defend his title against another former Bellator champion: Former Bellator light heavyweight champion Attila Vegh (29-6-2) in the co-main event of M-1 Challenge 68 this Thursday (June 16th).

Estonian heavyweight prospect Denis Smoldarev (10-1) returns to the M-1 ring this Saturday (June 6th) for M-1 Challenge 58. He’ll face Alexei Kudin (19-8).

Bronze medalist in the World Sambo championships, Denis Smoldarev gets prospect of the week this week. The former K-1 fighter is one of the few heavyweight prospects out there that are a true heavyweight. He's 6'5 250lbs. He's got a solid all round game, powerful on his feet, good on the ground, etc. He's also more of a volume puncher than a power striker. For a breakdown of his skills, check out MMA Sun. He'll be fighting 6-1 Ukrainian heavyweight prospect Evgeni Guryanov in the main event of M-1 Challenge 48 next Saturday (May 24th).

Ante Delija vs Denis Smoldarev

The main event from M-1 Challenge 45 this past Friday. Two pretty good heavyweight prospects in action. Smoldarev is a big heavyweight at 6'5 and 266lbs. Delija himself is 6'4, 247lbs. The winner is probably going to fight the winner of Marcin Tybura and Damian “Polish Pitbull” Grabowski for the M-1 heavyweight title.
