but mom's copy of the hobbit is gross

it goes with the animated movie...it's so gross. i hate that art style.

the movie was funny but no i can't take the story seriously with that art on every page

Friend: I never got in to WTNV. It's just all about the ship, which I don't really care about.

Me: Welcome to Night Vale is so great, though! Like, I enjoy a little surreal horror in my narratives anyway, so that's one thing. But on another level, it's very interesting philosophically. The recent Strex Corp plot has been addressing lots of issues about Self and Other, and how Self isn't necessarily better than Other, it's just what we're comfortable with. Like, Night Vale is just as horrifying and awful as Desert Bluffs, but they've convinced us to root for getting rid of the mandatory corporate picnic that never ends and is surrounded with barbed wire in favor of restoring the librarians that can kill you if you're not successful with your summer reading program, just because the librarians are OURS, and Strex is THEM.

Me: There's lots of other interesting philosophical things in it, too, and it's a nice break from vet school, which is all pragmatic all the time. I miss undergrad philosophy classes.

Friend: I don't think my college experience is going to be very much like yours, either.
