‘My favourite ride starts at Sedbergh in Cumbria and meanders down Dentdale, surely the most beautiful valley in all of England. Every foot is pure pleasure. After five miles you arrive at the exquisite cobbled-street village of Dent, with a beautiful church and a great place for refreshment, Stone Close tea room. Then cycle on up the increasingly wild dale to Denthead: the view back down the Dale from the road above the magnificent Denthead viaduct must be one of the best in the land.’

🌟 New Walk Published: Dent Head Viaduct to Cowgill and Bleamoor Tunnel

📍 I’ve just added a detailed guide for an 11-mile circular route in Dentdale, starting at the striking Dent Head Viaduct and covering sections of the Dales Way and Dales High Way in the Yorkshire Dales.

🥾 The walk begins with parking beneath Dent Head Viaduct, followed by a stretch along a tranquil road that forms part of the Dales Way National Trail. Along the way, you’ll pass a few small waterfalls before reaching Stone House, where you can take a detour to admire the equally impressive Arten Gill Viaduct. Continuing on the main path, you’ll head towards Cowgill, where you can visit St John the Evangelist Church, a peaceful spot for a rest.

🚶‍♂️ From Cowgill, the walk continues on the Dales Way through picturesque countryside before turning off to ascend the hills. After joining the Dales High Way, the route climbs gradually to Boot of the Wold, then descends towards the aqueduct at Smithy Hill. From here, you’ll follow a trail that runs above Bleamoor Tunnel, passing its ventilation shafts, before returning to Dent Head Viaduct.
