Everyone seems to like Denver. What's your opinion on him. Do you like him or not really?

I found his character is annoying. I'm not talking about the laugh. He is even more annoying in the second heist, where he tried and thought that he is smarter than Martin. Idk, he is an idgaf kind of person in the first heist (I even didn't like him too in s1&2), but I still can tolerate him.

But in the second heist, they over written him. I'm not talking about the story line, i'm talking about the character development himself. He looks like mysagonist who agreed with Berlin on the vote. Doesn't care about his mates.

He is stupid and naive who thinks a hostage really fall for him even have sex with him. But in 2nd heist he suddenly has a brain, respect woman and care about his friends??? Since when?

What do you think of him? And why do you think so many people like him or ship him with Monica? Whats the difference between Denver and Monica..... With Berlin and Adriana??

I do.

This is just personal preference, really. But I do think Denver was created to be an easily likable character, in a sense. As in, he wasn't written to be a character that creates polarizing reactions in the audience, like Berlin, Palermo and Alicia for example are.

From the start, he's shown to have a short temper and be aggressive in a sense, and to also not be very intelligent, but that's easily topped by him being a genuinely good person. "Good" is relative, obviously. So if we're speaking about the first heist, as a guy who has been poor and desperate his entire life, he's shown to be immediately willing to offer money he literally just got to a woman, just because she seemed in need and because her choice reminded him of a choice his mother could have once thought about. And right after, he's completely shaken by the prospect of having to kill someone, only for him to fake and cover said person, who's a hostage who was just about to help call the police no less, while knowing what Berlin can and likely will do to him if he was discovered. And he did this without asking for anything in return, he didn't do and immediately ask for sexual favors to keep her alive for example. Once and again, he just put his life in danger to save and protect a hostage. So I can easily see why most audience would root for him. He's just easy to root for.

As for "he's stupid and naive enough to think a hostage would really fall for him and even have sex with him." I simply will just to disagree. Denver can be both stupid and naive, those are parts of his characteristics. But in this scenario, he wasn't, because said hostage did fall for him and did have consensual sex with them. Neither his stupidity nor naivety were parts of it. He was perceiving the exact right signs. At no point did we get any sign from the narrative or from Monica, that she didn't have emotions for him. Their sex scenes are really easy to read as mutually consensual, something that both characters, including the hostage, wanted. Monica proved her emotions to Denver multiple times, including a time where she sabotaged the escape of the group of hostages she belonged to, for his sake.

And on that note, I would also very, very strongly disagree that Denver's relationship with Monica was the same as Andrés' with Ariadna. If, say, that heist was real, and you and I watched it on the news, and we heard that two of the criminals got involved in relationships with hostages, we might be inclined to say those are rape cases and both are the same. But this isn't the case, because on the show, we got insight in everything that was happening inside the mint, we saw both relationships form. And I think they both read extremely differently. Even with no assistance from the narrative, I don't think most people, or at least me personally, would ever read the two relationships in the same way. From start to finish, Berlín clearly put Ariadna in a position where she thought the only way to secure her life was to offer him sex, he intentionally did that, then made some tongue-in-cheek comment about her wanting this too, then continued to rape her. There is nothing ambiguous about it. The first time Denver and Monica have sex, they do because she initiated it after him going out and beyond to care for her and her developing feelings for him.

And to drill the point deeper, there was a whole storyline of Nairobi telling him her emotions aren't real (note that not even Nairobi didn't assume he got no signs of feelings from Monica) and it was only Stockholm Syndrome, his first reaction was being disgusted with himself and immediately going to break it off with her even though at this point he loved her. She's the one who didn't accept this and assured him of the total reality of her love for him. Then to make it even deeper, we had a scene between the two hostages, where Monica admitted to being in love with Denver, and Ariadna cried over Berlin raping her. From extreme surface level, regarding a criminal + a hostage, sure the two stories are similar. But otherwise, the two stories aren't just different, they are narratively built as total opposites of each other. Like he might be annoying to, for sure, it's a preference, but canonically Denver isn't a rapist, and canonically he was right about Monica's feelings.

I also don't think it came up anywhere, in all seasons, that he didn't care about his mates. I think he had cared about his friends from the start, but not all of those were even really his friends in the first heist. But he obviously loved his father, treated Monica well, and treated the rest normally too!

And in the second heist, he had by then gone through major emotional maturity; he had lost his father, robbed a bank, moved out of the country he lived in his whole life, got married and raiseda son. Intelligence-wise, he's still the same. But his emotional maturity obviously evolved, also his responsibilities. He wasn't smarter as much as he was more careful and less reckless because he was always worried about his wife and also about not returning to his son. And Denver really never shown any glaring signs of particularly being misogynistic. He's not the most perfect feminist ever, obviously, but that's normal. He has never shown any particularl disrespect for women in the first place, really. The rest were normal, expected maturity.

Sure he has his moments, fighting over with Martin, etc. But he had his reasons to lash out. Sure he's not as smart as Martín, but he's more worried, he's more nervous, he's distrustful to an extent. So him going head-to-head with him a couple of times are just normal scenes that don't particularly paint him in bad light. He has more at stakes here, and he wants assurance that they will get out alive.

Everyone can have their own opinions and preferences with characters, really. And it's purely understandable even to dislike characters for no reason, you just find them irritable. Happens with me all the time.

But I personally do like him, I enjoy him a lot on screen, I enjoy his dialogue and I like his and Monica's relationship a lot, actually. I think it's very sweet! Overall, he's a fun character to me. I liked him both in the first heist, and I mostly liked his development in the second heist too.

Darkness engulfed the room. The only glimmer of light coming from the small side table lamp. Not enough to illuminate the whole space, but enough to allow you to read the book in your lap.

The heist was just around the corner. Approaching faster than you would have liked. Although the team was prepared, ready to get started, it was bitter sweet. You made your home here these last few weeks. These people were your family, really they were the only family you’ve ever known.

One person in particular made moving onto this next chapter even harder.

Denver.

The two of you grew closer with each day at the house. He made you laugh, he lend a helping hand whenever you needed one, he was your shoulder to cry on, your feeling of peace. Romantic involvement was strictly forbidden, but it was that rule which made it so much more exciting.

Your relationship with Denver was really just beginning. Yet with the robbery around just days days away, you couldn't help but worry this feeling of peace you were experiencing because of him was about to end.

Which is why you currently sat alone in your room, while the rest of the group enjoyed a family dinner. A knock on the door ahead caused you to glance up from your book, just in time to meet the eyes of the person checking in on you.

“What’s on your mind?” Denver asked, tilting his head in your direction. With a soft sigh, you placed the empty plate on the ground and shifted in your spot to look at him.

The handsome crook smirked. He reached out his hand and gently brushed the loose strands of your hair behind your ear. He then proceeded to lift up his arm and pat his chest, indicating for you to snuggle up closer. You obliged, resting your head against him.

You angled yourself under his embrace so that you could catch his gaze. “Always the optimist.” You teased causing Denver to scoff and playfully roll his eyes. “Always the pessimist.” He returned. You couldn't help but chuckle.

“Now, I have an important question.” He began after the laughter died down. You raised an intrigued brow. “Can I kiss you?” Denver asked.

With a silly grin plastered on your face, all previous feelings of concern and sadness quickly dissolving, you said ‘yes’. Your brunette boyfriend didn't waste any time.
