almost finished with my Queen Seondeok rewatch. it's a 2009 k-drama that still remains the best show i've ever watch, i cannot recommend this show enough. the show's about the power struggle between mishil and deokman (seondeok). it's centered around women and the writing and acting is superb.

mishil is literally the perfect antagonist. the show isn't afraid to show that she is a very capable and talented leader, that genuinely cares for her country and people while still making her cruel and ruthless. i can't say i was rooting for her because of everything she did and the way she treats bidam, but she was fascinating to watch. the creepy music that would play whenever she appeared and her iconic smile, her presence was so threatening and she owned every scene she was in. i also love how the characters in the show can't fully understand her motives, she remains this almost mystical being.

deokman is my baby. she's soooo smart and watching her scheme and develop as a leader was so much fun! the show wasn't afraid to show her fail and make mistakes. her scenes with mishil are perfection and i LOVE how the show didn't make things easy for her. she really had to prove to people why they should follow her. her arc was perfect.

yushin was 10\10. his dynamic with deokman is so sweet and tragic. like obvs i'm team bidam but i was really shipping them before bidam arrived lmao

bidam BIDAM the man you are. he was terrifying, pathetic, cruel, sympathetic, sensitive, loving and evil all at the same time. he's the perfect anti-hero. the way he was abandoned again and again and never felt secure and needed constant assurance stop. "you are like a sword without a hilt. it also cuts the person who yields it" fjfjfjfnvjfvbjf

i loved mishil's husbands. the way they were just ok with mishil being with both of them & being ruled by her. daemon could never lmao

Lately I had rewatch a South Korean TV show named The Great Queen Seon Deok, first aired in 2009 on MBC. I am part of BiDeok (Bidam x Deokman) shipper.

As I remember, a long time ago I watch a scene where baby/toddler Bidam shows affection towards baby Deokman when Sohwa meet Munno in their run. But on the website that I rewatched it, there is no such scene. I can’t find it either on YouTube, find only a few posts about BiDeok on Tumblr but no such scene. Now I’m doubting whether that scene is deleted scene or extended version.

That such scene like a hallucination for myself.

Now, all I want to do is read any BiDeok fan fictions. Unfortunately there isn’t many 😢 how sad.

Okay I keep going on like The Great Queen Seondeok is perfect which it almost is!! But only almost so for once have some weird things that stood out to me. Despite all these amazing female characters...

it's kinda weird how much they emphasized Deokman's the weakest of the Hwarang trainees and so weak. I get it, she's already wildly badass in every other way and also nothing is more boring than having a woman be pretty good at a thing but still have the potential love interests be way better at it, and what would Bidam and Yushin do if Deokman was a one man army too lmao. but there's such a thing as going a biiit too far in the other direction (like. she was super physically active the whole time before she joined the trainees, was going through hardcore stuff just recently, and she carried her mom on her back(!!) through the desert(!!). yeah adrenaline blabla but she was also exhausted af already at the time. Then suddenly it's like oh yeah she's so weak, the weakest, lala please forget about all this, just focus on how she's a girl. yeah uh Mishil's also a woman and a super badass fighter but please also kinda forget about that too thx)

After we see Mishil defeat a small army once we never get to watch her truly fight or even train again?? She just seems to. Stop doing that. Completely? Aside from sometimes like picking up a sword or bow when it's time to do or attempt some dramatic murder. I want to know if she helped train her son. I get she's no Munno and that like Deokman if she was she'd not need anyone else lol. and I assume it may be a status thing since the son of the noble she's married to unlike her son from her lover seems to hardly know how to use a sword at all and it gets mentioned at least once the other son does the dirty work. But I can't see her completely giving up her fighting skills come on

some few women get as little screen time and agency as possible, they're just plot devices. like Yushin's wife he was forced to marry and Chunchu's naive wife he married for power. yeah I know this show gave us like a hundred awesome women but come on why. Especially Chunchu's wife, the way he wildly and ruthlessly manipulated her in those couple of scenes, followed by her completely disappearing from the screen when he has what he wants is infuriating. We get it he's at least half as smart as Deokman and a dangerous enemy to have now please let his wife kick him in the back (metaphorically is fine). no?? ok

We know Mishil fought as a soldier with the army and was good af at it. and later when she was a concubine she still acted as the king's bodyguard. But I don't think there's ever any explanation for why Mishil got to be a soldier but no other woman. I doubt Mishil pretended to be a dude like Deokman and she's big on not blatantly breaking the rules for everyone to see sooo. I need to know. how did this happen and what did Mishil have to say about it

I get having the sole remaining kid of the king (until Deokman comes along) marry early was a political move, and that she super loved the dude who then tragically went off to die, and that they picked an actress who in the first episodes doesn't seem as young as her twin probably on purpose, and that Chunchu's vital for the plot etc., but like... never a word of concern from anyone that she had a kid at that age?? Like everything else aside, she was the sole known surviving child of the king and people would have known about the risk. I assume she did it on purpose and without anyone's approval but weird how I don't think it ever comes up and they make it easy to forget her age Anyway still best show though and maybe during my most recent rewatch I'll solve some mysteries
