yepppp exactly. like it's nice enough but it feels like for a lot of people, especially the more establishment left, these occasional comments are how a movement gets built and it's frustrating. i see people like doug henwood saying that we need leaders and that people like russell brand are revolutionary leaders and it's just... ridiculous. tiring to keep running the celebrity comment treadmill, where every comment produces mountains of opinion pieces from self-proclaimed leftist voices, as if it's getting anyone anywhere, except maybe the celebrity and the journalists who lap this stuff up

Aside: it’s amusing how so many micro-blogging revolutionary communists are saluting him as if he’s a “comrade” now. Is he active in a leftist org? There’s an inherent irreconc. paradox in his stance as comedian/actor. Good publicity for left? Sure.

Yeah it's weird, I kind of understand it but the rush to proclaim everyone who says positive left things as revolutionary leaders is pretty alienating. I guess it comes from the same place that sees editorials and opinion pieces as major places of struggle - everything comes down to what appears in the media, which is a really shallow and dangerous way of thinking

yeah i really don't think much of any of his practical ideas at all but he seems to be an alright anthropologist so whatever. that's as far as i'll endorse him
