FINANCE Secretary Derek Mackay has resigned from his position following allegations after it was revealed he sent creepy texts to a 16-year-old boy online. Mackay's resignation comes hours before he was due to deliver the budget in Holyrood. 

According to the Scottish Sun, the MSP called the schoolboy "cute" and invited him to dinner and an event at the Scottish Parliament.

Mackay has said he takes "full responsibility" for his actions, and claims he "behaved foolishly".

He said: “I apologise unreservedly to the individual involved and his family. I spoke last night with the First Minister and tendered my resignation with immediate effect. Serving in government has been a huge privilege and I am sorry to have let colleagues and supporters down."

FTR, the age of consent in Scotland is 16. The issue here is whether he abused a positon of trust as a minister in the Scottish government. People in positions of trust (teachers, social workers, police etc) can be prosecuted if it can be proven they used that position to leverage sex from a 16 yo. However this incident has opened the floodgates into the behaviour of Mr Mackay from excessive drinking to lavishing unwanted attention on younger men around him, usually while drinking.

Scottish Finance Secretary Quits Over Messages To Boy

Hours before delivering his budget, Scotland’s finance secretary has quit amid reports he sent messages on social media to a 16-year-old boy.

The Scottish Sun reported Derek Mackay contacted the boy over a six-month period, and told him that he was quote “cute”.

In his own words Mackay admitted he had “behaved foolishly.”  he apologized and said he takes full responsibility for his actions.
