Promises || Derek & Kaden
The stage lights changed from red to green as the thump of the drum-set and the twang of the guitar filled Derek’s ears to the point that they felt they were going to burst. He felt alive; felt the pulsation of the crowd and the music and the beating of his own heart. He hadn’t felt like this for a while; this meaning actually happy and carefree. The song ended and he leaned in close to the mic, “Thank you all for coming out tonight! We’ve got one more song to play and then we’re gonna hand things over to another band but we really appreciate you all dealing with us losers on stage.” He smirked as the crowd laughed and the music started again.
Derek took a deep breath, concentrating so that he could finish strong, it had been a while since their band had had a really good venue like this one, not to say that the last few venues they had played had been bad, but this place had consistently large crowds and if you played well, you were always invited back. He raised his eyes, getting ready for his entrance when he saw a brown head of hair lingering on the outskirts of the crowd that took the breath out of his chest. What in the Hell was she doing here? He paused, feeling as if his tongue had turned to sand in his mouth. The music was still going on behind him and he could feel Ben’s eyes on him as he stood frozen staring out at a face he hadn’t seen for three years and hadn’t expected to see, especially at one of his shows.
Derek caught himself however, remembering where he was and started singing, causing a roar to sound from the first few rows of devoted fangirls. But although he sang along, the words he was thinking in his head didn’t match what was coming out of his mouth.
