The Wild family; Derrial and Alie with their children, the dog changer twins Diriel and Shaniel, and the youngest boy Aliel. Alie (mother) is a raider who acquired fame for routing the ytte out of the northern mountains. She's impulsive, energetic, headstrong, and confident. Alie is proud of her hometown, even if it is very grey, and refuses to speak anything other than the prestige language Arumscir, stating that this is what any sensible person would do. Derrial's parents requested that he do the honourable thing and disinherit himself. He's partially sighted/blind and they not only thought he'd be too weak but that this would endanger their town. Derrial is patient, persevering, kind, and thoughtful. He did not disinherit himself, and as chief he's brought an unusual sort of success to the region; money. It's well-known that only a fool tries to raid his town, as he has the loyal support of all the, now richer, surrounding towns. There's not much that can prepare a young couple for twins. Especially when those twins are also dogs. They don't have any changer relatives, they'll just need to figure it out
