16 and 17 for the book asks! :D

16. What is the most over-hyped book you read this year?

I really don’t have an answer for this one. I’m not very in-touch with the hype these days to begin with, and I didn’t read anything that really disappointed me. I guess the closest would be Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. My book club loved it so much that I read it even though we’d already moved on to the next book. I don’t know that it lived up to that level of hype. But honestly it’s not even fair to say that because I loved the book, too! It just didn’t blow me completely away like it did the others. I read a lot more science fiction and fantasy than them, so the idea of reading from an octopus’ perspective, while very cool, was not such a giant WTF.

17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?

A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik, the first Scholomance book.

I shouldn’t have been surprised, because Naomi Novik, but it sounded so grim that I put off reading it for a long time. And it was grim, but it wasn’t hopeless or joyless, and it’s probably my favorite thing I read all year.

The Lord of Blood stared long and hard upon the Tarnished that knelt by his feet. His gaze was critical; as piercing as an arrow let loose from the bow.

As the minutes passed slow and silent, the Lord of Blood drew close.

He knelt down upon one knee, and bowed his head; the little nubs he had for wings fluttered as if in excitement.

Julian grunted. It had not been a pleasant day; a stray migraine had struck him sometime after lunchtime and he'd retreated into the bedroom, keeping the lights at 0% and the temperature low. Julian was lucky to still be on leave - his mental health had not improved yet, not after the mess Julian's parents had created.

The pain was finally abating. Julian actually managed to open one eye and not feel like his stomach tried to empty itself of everything. No, whatever was left in it was only the acid that dissolved the foods that entered Julian's stomach.

Well, that certainly was a win.

Slowly, much slower than he usually moved, Julian managed to sit up. He made his way into the living room where he kept the warm quilt and snacks.

Julian all but collapsed on the couch right before the door slid open. Garak entered but did not turn on the lights.

"My dearest?"

"I'm 'ere", Julian croaked, "got a migraine. Head still hurts."

The sofa dipped, and the warm quilt was draped over Julian. Garak's hand was pressed on Julian's forehead, and Garak sighed.

"Water?" Garak asked softly.

"Please", Julian breathed.

Garak got up and was soon back with a cup of cold water which Julian emptied faster than he'd imagined possible. He had not eaten anything for hours and it showed.

"Anything to eat?"

Julian shook his head even though Garak couldn't possible see it. "I don't think I can eat anything yet." After a moment, Julian asked, "hold my hand?"

Garak found Julian's hand and squeezed his fingers. It was comforting to have someone so close to him even if he couldn't see Garak at that moment.

And, well, if Garak began to draw little patterns on Julian's palm with his finger and making Julian giggle because it tickled, well, that was not such a bad thing to happen either.

steve/tony for the ship ask game! <3

Ship It

What made you ship it? - You know, I honestly don’t remember the exact moment, but it was definitely because of Civil War (the comics, this was back in The Olden Times). Specifically it was the stuff right before Civil War, like Breakout, and then the POST Civil War stuff, especially Avengers: Prime. Then I started going back and reading older stuff and being all “these guys sure do pine... I LOVE IT”

What are your favorite things about the ship? - The history behind it. The way they keep coming back to each other. The way they complement each other. 

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?  - uhhhh probably? Damned if I can think of one at the moment. I like them as friends in genfic just as much as I like them married in romantic fic or fucking like crazy in pwps. I’m not super into hatesex, personally, so I don’t go looking for scenarios where they genuinely don’t like or love each other.

hewwo, it is i, your local annoying bianca stan. :D my question is, how does steve react when he finds out that bianca is autistic? and what does it feel like to her, him knowing? is she relieved, or worried, etc. (also hope u feel better soon!!)

okay so Bianca's autism is sort of based on my own and how I address it — generally speaking, 98% of autistic people I know have either known as soon as they talk to me or gone "well obviously" when I mention it, while almost all neurotypical people I mention it to are more or less like "gasp you're so normal though", and I joke about it very easily!

So Steve finds out that Bianca is autistic at the party at the start of Age Of Ultron! Bianca is there at both Tony and Steve's invitations, but neither of them realize that the other knows her. She hasn't been deliberately keeping it a secret she just hasn't really known how to mention it

Basically she's talking to Tony and he asks how she knows Steve and she makes a joke about how dating her special interest is winning at autism and Steve happens to hear it

He's not bothered by the comment at all — he knows her well enough to know when she's just being a little shit lmao — but he's definitely surprised that she's autistic! Back in the 30s, autism had a very different meaning (it was actually first used in reference to schizophrenia and then in the 40s it started being used to refer to children with social or emotional issues) and electroshock therapy was used as treatment, so like, he has no sense of what autism really is or means in the 21st century! So he does ask Bianca about it and she's pretty upfront about what it is by textbook definition and what it means for her specifically.

Steve is very chill about it because he already knows she has all of these behaviours, he just thought of them as being Bianca specific quirks! Bianca tries to act very casual about it because on a logical level she knew that Steve wouldn't be a dick about it, but she's definitely still relieved!

but also Steve definitely makes an effort to learn more about it and to always do his best to be aware and considerate of Bianca but tbh he was already doing that so we love a respectful and supportive boyfriend!!!
