Damon x Elena in Season 4 Appreciation Week
Day 6: Best trust/understanding moment.
Okay, this one was a bit hard for me because in this season the connection between Damon and Elena has been very strong and their similarities have been emphasized. Because of this, I would have to go with 404. Everyone is trying to tell Elena that she shouldn't be whoever she is becoming, that she is losing herself. Everyone is telling her that she is changing and everyone has expressed disappointment, except Damon. Damon is the only one who has realized that she is bound to change because she is not a human anymore and Damon is the only one who hasn't been idealizing her, expecting to be a normal-toothed human when she is a fanged vampire. Also, in this scene an iconic phrase is said: "She already is like me". Damon is the only one who understands that Elena isn't as saintly as everyone makes her out to be. He also has seen what she will do for her loved ones and which lines she will cross which is exactly what he does. And while everyone tries to make it seem that Damon is bad for Good Girl Elena, Damon is the only one who sees Normal Girl Elena. It is an odd scene to choose, I suppose, considering how Elena doesn't really speak, but Bonnie does. However Bonnie acting as a barrier between them, just like the magic of the sire bond, and the looks and context of the scene, makes it quite Delena-ish in my eyes. Elena's look throughout the whole interaction is one of fear, disgust and shame. The three things Damon has tried to never make her feel. Elena to some extent knows that Damon makes sense and she trusts that he wasn't doing anything perverse. However, as reassurance, she goes back to her shield and to her mantra of how she should have done all of this with Stefan (even though he would never be able to do something like that). But she still knows he isn't wrong and that's why she isn't the one confronting him. Damon also knows where Elena is coming from, but he doesn't find the need to coddle her because he knows and is sure that Elena will understand all of this. He knows and is sure that only her could have taught her how to feed.
