Storytime
Young Sherlock, the fluffball with wit Before Vela, with keen ears, did sit. Most chicks shuffled, bored, But across all the hoard, He saw one focused more than a bit. Kororā, the Mother of Flight From stars to the earth would alight. Each year she would make A decision and take The best mate to pass on her birthright. "Aumārire": not always the strongest, The smartest, the fastest, the longest -- Sometimes they were kind Giving heart, soul, and mind Helping flock over thoughts of their own nest. Far beyond any peng's ken, Kororā chose Pono, a hen. "As a goddess," said she "I snub biology." They made an egg. Trouble flew in. One week! Only one they could stand. Then Apo said Pono was banned From raising the chick. She was "weak, slow, and thick." Their seizure forced Pono's sweet hand.* She fought for her egg, her star-child, But her body, indeed, was too mild. Her death brought rage-grief To the Mother. "YOU THIEF. You walk now! My gift is defiled." Kororā, heart-broken, sky-bound Where she waits, for a hatchling's small sound. While the quiet egg sleeps, Pono's body she keeps 'Til a new Aumārire is found. *flipper, I know.
