“You can stay the night, but I suggest you leave before the sun comes up.”

The torrentialdownpour outside hit the windows like bullets ricocheting. Corinne could barelysee beyond two inches through the window pane, but at least she wasn’t standingin the rain anymore. Samael’s apartment was warm and—most importantly—dry. She considersit a great stroke of luck that they happened to run into each other whileattempting to escape the storm, because as it turned out, he lived close by andhad been willing ( albeit a little disgruntled—she’s used to this by now ) tolet her stay until the rain passed.
She sat watchingout the window, wearing a shirt that was too big and sweatpants that had to bedouble knotted just to keep them above her hips. They were either Samael’sclothes or someone else’s that lived here, but either way she was grateful justto be in something dry while her own clothes were thrown in the dryer. Corinnecan feel his eyes on her, and can see his silhouette in the reflection of thewindow. She turns her attention to him just as he speaks.
Corinne blinks insurprise, although it’s more that he’s allowing her to stay so long rather thanthat he’d like her to leave before sunrise. Any other person might have foundthis particular request strange and somewhat ominous, but she takes it all instride. Where once his stand-offish behaviour and cutthroat remarks might havehurt her feelings, now she only smiles knowingly, taking it for what it is—his ownway of being hospitable and kind. That he lets her stay at all speaks volumes.
❝Okay,❞ she says, nodding. It’dbe a lie to say she’s not a little curious by his unusual request, but sheknows it isn’t her place to pry into his business. If it makes him morecomfortable for her to leave, then so be it. ❝Thank you. For letting me stay.❞
❝ Not the first time I’ve heard that joke. I’m still not laughing. ❞
a hand , worn from a lifetime of work , settles atop a slender hip & his head hangs just a little in sheepish embarrassment . his pride aches , much like a fresh paper cut —— AN AIRY , BRITTLE TWANG that is easily forgotten — in the awkward silence that follows the other’s lack of amusement & in some attempt to REDEEM himself , his eyes dart back towards the rigid stranger . a QUIRK OF HIS LIPS and shrug of his shoulders signals in his inability to give up on anything , “ i told you i wasn’t very good with jokes . that doesn’t mean i can’t help you with your investigation ! ”
( @descendcd ; i can’t find the meme ! )
He may or may not feel bad about snapping at her earlier, and so when he next sees her next, he hands her a small sketchbook he'd recently filled up--mostly drawings of flowers and small animals. Since he has no intention of keeping it for himself, it makes a good enough apology present, right? It might help if he actually /said/ sorry, but he's still a little lacking when it comes to social skills; thus, only a soft huff and awkward glance away accompany the gift.

To be honest, she felt bad. Maybe it had been tooforward of her to butt in, even if she thought her concern was well-founded.She’d been worried. Even if she had never met him, she would have been worriedat the sight of someone coughing up blood; but she did know him—a little bit,and so she’d done her best to try and help, although he hadn’t accepted it tookindly. She didn’t fault him for it. He seemed like the kind to keep tohimself, so perhaps it shouldn’t have surprised her when he snapped at her.
She is surprised, however, when she sees him again.Corinne hardly expected to be greeted much less have a sketchbook thrust towardher. Confused, she gingerly takes the sketchbook and flips through the pages. A smile forms as she comes across a sketch of a rose. They’re all beautiful drawings; clearly he had a talent, but given his lack ofverbal communication, she’s a little unsure what he means by giving this toher. ❝I—❞ she pauses, head tilting in curiosity. ❝Is this... for me?❞
The flowers are in bloom; a sure sign of Spring if she ever saw one, and she’s a little grateful. As much as she loved Winter, the warmer weather is a nice change of pace. The air smells fresh, the verdant green of the park glimmering under the sunlight, and it seems she’s not the only one to take notice. Her eyes are drawn to a guy who looks to be painting.
It’s not her intention to stare, but she’s just so fascinated by the scenery coming to life beneath his fingertips that she can’t bring herself to look away. Not wanting to come off as rude, she steps up lightly to him, pale hands clasped behind her back. She peers with a curious smile, indicating the painting he’s working on. ❝That looks beautiful. You’re very talented.❞

Though Senka doesn’t much care for humans, she does enjoy what they’ve created. Especially the clothes; she loves wearing the latest dresses and such from big name human designers.
“ I’m not saying it’s logical. I’m just saying it’s human. ” ( for mercy )
mercy felt a kind of responsibility to help pandora, not only in her newfound powers, but also in life. and she didn’t feel the decisions the other was making were really the best ones she could be making. of course she knew that everyone had to make their mistakes and everyone had to learn from those mistakes. but did she really have to stand by and watch someone potentially be hurt all over again. she didn’t like it. one bit.
“ look – i’ve been around for a very long time. i’ve seen people make some incredibly bad and rash decisions. and i’ve seen what those decisions do to them. to their lives. some people end up absolutely destroyed. and i’m just not gonna stand by and watch that happen again. i’ll lock you in this apartment until you change your mind if i have to, don’t think i won’t. ”
@descendcd because yES ladies
“ hi -- sorry to bother you, i was contacted by a uh...i think her name was mercy. she told me to come to the address. i hope this isn’t weird...” honestly now that she thought about it, it was probably kind of weird to just show up to some strangers home the way she was. but there really wasn’t any turning back now.
