‘ not even a little visit? ’ — war & death.
emotional starters !
» it had been a long time since augustus visited the other horsemen. for what felt like centuries on end, he’d been sent away to complete his job, suffering from loneliness and curing it with endless drinks and mindless bloodshed. infiltrating militaries and infecting the minds of politicians; it was all handshakes and tight suits most days, even more reason to miss the beginning of everything. but the horseman had finally completed his duty, it was only a matter of time before he’d be sent off again to fight alone. augustus would have to wait for the day all four of the horsemen reunited once more.
still, at least he could visit one in the meantime. augustus didn’t like to play favourites, they were all siblings to him, but he was always closest to thanatos in the end. he was there from the very beginning, from the moment he took the title to his first slayed. albeit, it was his job to be there, but war and death went neatly hand in hand. but thanatos had other jobs to attend to, greek gods to appease. augustus believed in the greek gods, he was aware of their existence, but he would never put his faith into any of them. all of them seemed more dramatic than the last, an ego bigger with each one you met. and he hadn’t even met any of them properly.
through tartarus, augustus made his trek towards a quaint home hidden away through a kingdom’s worth of flowers. he rarely visited the underworld, it wasn’t his domain, but truth be told there was something eerily frightening about it. memories lingered back to the last time he and than spoke, the quiet sadness that seeped through his friend’s features as he asked, ‘ not even a little visit ? ’ augustus wasn’t one for remorse, it created pain that lingered in his chest, far too similar to the night he died, but he couldn’t help but feel guilt.
scarred knuckles that were in the middle of healing knocked against the door thrice, resting his body weight against the door frame as he awaited for the angel to open up. hearing the door creak, revealing such a familiar face, a kind smile broke out. the two stood face to face for a moment, taking in each other’s presence.
“ augustus ? ” “ surprise. ”
in an instant, augustus took in the angel for a deep hug. like a war veteran returning home, his arms embraced the other, slowly untangling from each other once the timing felt right. it’d been so long, his memories felt like black and white photographs. “ i brought back a present, ” augustus spoke; with a flick of his hand, a paper bag with a delicate label written in cursive appeared. “ the best you can find in france, i hear. i know it won’t make up for how long i’ve been gone, but call it a peace offering ? ” he winced, handing the bag over.
with a gentle smile, thanatos stood to the side. “ please, come in. ”
