tbh, as much as i love berserk, i've already given up on it. i think this is gonna be a nothing burger. it's sad how many shows/books/movie series extend themselves for longer than they should instead of ending with a bang at the time they've reached their peak—but then the dead horse keeps on getting beat. like golden age berserk really was the golden age of berserk, huh, even if i liked some things that came after. but also i think this continuation of the manga should really just have been like an interview or a magazine piece where mori just tells the readers (maybe with some art panels by the ppl miura was working with) about the way miura intended to continue and finish this story. instead we're getting a boring continuation that's likely to drag on for another like five to eight years or smth. goddamn i miss it when berserk made me feel things, but now i probably will only get my catharsis in the distant future, if that (hoping against hope).

Yeah that's fair, I don't blame anyone for losing interest at this point. I'll probably keep reading new chapters for the foreseeable future and having opinions on them, but yeah the very slow trickle of chapters, the new team working on it without Miura, and the boring direction the story is going so far makes it hard to be invested in the current story.

At least we'll always have the Golden Age!

what even is the point of introducing the looming threat of the beast of darkness potentially taking over guts when all it leads to is just him killing some random npcs, the random npcs dying has no impact on the story nor do their deaths ever cast any aspersions on guts' morality so how is it supposed to convince us that the beast of darkness is a genuine problem. even worse if he's rescued from himself yet again for the nth time. like stop foreshadowing something that isn't gonna happen

lol well it looks like it hasn't even led to killing random npcs at this point. I still think it is gonna happen, like it can't not, it's the equivalent of cutting to a close up of chekhov's gun 50 times, but like

I'm sorry but this is such a sad continuation of Berserk. I shouldn't let a manga's art influence my opinion of it, I know, but goddamn does this thing look increasingly ugly. Miura was a master at drawing nuances in characters' expressions or even changing the entire artstyle to portray emotion, but this thing just looks flat as all hell. Another thing Miura was good at? Good dialogue. Here, there's barely even any dialogue, and when there is it's just meaningless.

I still think they should've just had Mori write down whatever Miura told him into some kind of article or whatever, and that would be it. But this is what we get, I guess.

At least we got the extremely funny (to me, at least) panel of Guts crying over his sword.

Yeah honestly I'd probably have preferred to just read it all at once as a plot outline rather than the manga continuation we're getting. But there's something to be said for having stuff to talk and speculate about semi regularly too, so I can't say I mind the direction they went. But again, I don't really see it as Berserk so much as like, someone telling me what was eventually going to happen in Berserk, but slowly and with pictures lol.

It really does show how good Miura's writing and art could be by contrast though. It'll always be disappointing to see a new chapter and be forced to wonder how Miura would've depicted it. Especially wrt expressions, in terms of art. He was so good at emotional nuance.

Oh good lol. And yeah I completely agree w/ you. So many people really try as hard as they can to reduce the complexity of griffguts and downplay how important their relationship is to the story, it sucks.

lol pretty much. And like, sure, it’s subtext, so I get that maybe the sexual attraction isn’t everyone’s first interpretation, but when you can’t admit that people see it for a reason and it’s definitely one plausible read of their relationship, it’s kind of ridiculous.
