I did the six outfits meme that was going around, and used the MC of my webcomic, Odessa. I asked ppl on twitter for prompts and these are the ones I got! Some of them were a challenge

1) Dana Brook rasslin outfit 2) I am not sure where this one was from, was some cool dude showin off his fit 3) “Flowy Croptop” was the prompt 4) Fancy Formal Dress -- the only one that belongs in the world of Desendi. Traditional Kapangi woman’s formal wear, which Odessa hates with an utter passion and luckily only ever had to wear once. 5) Yautja Hunter Garb 6) I think this was someone’s OC! Cool clothes though!

I kinda want to do more of these. Odessa as a character doesn't change her clothes much (or really at all) thru the course of Desendi, and the clothing she wears is specific to the fantasy world the comic takes place in. It’s also very very modest and attempts to hide a lot of her body shape, so getting able to break out of that for fun and draw her in different things was really refreshing. 

If any of y’all wanna throw me outfit suggestions for another batch of these (still with Odessa bc... I like drawing her...I really should get back to doing the comic at some point), then feel free to send ‘em to me! Really thinking about at least sketching some out. I like her dorito body shape.

COMICS WIP - Yondu Pages 17 - 20, Desendi Page 53 

Here are the layout sketches for the next batch of Yondu: Junk! Pages ((Ignore that page 19 and 20 are out of order lol)). If you can understand what’s going on in them, GOOD FOR YOU! These are basically just enlarged thumbnails, to be cleaned up later. 

The inks for the Desendi page that I should’ve finished weeks ago, haha... stupid sickness got in the way, but definitely am going to finish this before I leave town for Thanksgiving.

Just an aside, since this is what I mainly make/work on these days (outside of concept art for my day job) and I don’t talk about it much here (though... I think I’m gonna start again haha). I just finished sketching all the pages of Chapter 2 of my webcomic Desendi, and I’m ~3/4 of the way done w/ rendering all the pages for the chapter. 

I’m kind of bad at taking a step back and looking at everything I’ve done, and while I was searching for some reference for something in previous pages, I realized that I’ve made 79 pages of this fucking thing so far, and am finishing up the 80th tomorrow. Look at all this fucking work. 

I think that I avoid thinking about it sometimes bc I’m a little embarrassed about the art at the very beginning of the comic, but... you know, it’s been a learning experience. 

I still have a LONG way to go, and this is definitely a huge project for me to have decided to undertake but i’m happy that I’ve gotten even this far. Determined to keep going. 

Anyway, here’s a little clip of the next page that i’m working on (currently still unfinished, but nearly there...)

I’m glad I’ve gotten the opportunity to draw a ton of yautja stuff lately, though. Trying to work on dividing up my time a little more kindly to myself, so that I can actually do fun stuff like that guilt free haha

I’m not gonna be too serious about inktober this year since I have a ton of more important stuff that I wanna tackle (freelance, full time job, Desendi, and finishing up Yondu Junk), but I draw almost exclusively in brush and gelpen in my sketchbook these days anyway, so it’s giving me a reason to stop and do a drawing instead of working all the time! 

I also want to use it to explore a little of the world of my webcomic Desendi, either its characters or its culture or whatever, so if you guys have any fun prompts or anything that I can try to play with, feel free to drop it in! 

Day One: Young Odessa, trying to learn to maneuver with a training club. Her hair was long back then, and unkempt which made the masters unhappy and she was often punished for it. But it was the students' duty to cut their own hair (their heads were usually shaved early in their training), and Odessa, shaky handed and uncomfortable around blades, was never brave enough to do it except to cut her own bangs when they got in the way of her eyes. Stubborn more from anxiety than willpower, she took the punishment for it wordlessly. She started learning when she realized that it became too easy to grab and was a liability during sparring. She's since gotten better about it, but still waits for as long as she can before she sits down to give it a trim.

Inktober Day 6- Sword. Strop is not, nor ever will be, the chosen one. But that sword looks valuable so he'll try anyway.

This little guy shows up in a couple chapters in Desendi. Honestly can’t wait to have him show up, he’s my favorite haha

A younger Odessa trains with sprints. She wasn’t the fastest in her pod, but one could never imply she didn’t put up a good effort

Going to keep my inktobers relatively simple and character based because i don’t have enough time to challenge myself much more than that haha

Comics Work in Progress: Junk page 15 and Desendi Chapter 1, Page 48

Y’all caught me at the inking stages for both of these! I approach inking a bit differently between the two comics--Junk’s inking is done w/ a “dry brush” so it has a little pencil texture to it, and tends to be cleaner than Desendi, which I approach with a G-pen brush in Manga Studio and kind of carve out the details from the sketch. 

((I might do a mini video recording a section of inking Desendi to show what I’m talking about. Hmmm...!))

As you can see I don’t get particularly clean w/ the sketches when I draw... Which is probably bad practice, but I think it maintains more of the energy of what I would’ve put into the sketches anyway. I actually started doing it this way after watching the Fujita Kazuhiro episode of Urasawa Naoki no Manben (a japanese program where you watch a working mangaka through their creative process while Naoki Urasawa interviews them). You can watch it [here] if you’re interested; it’s a super inspiring program in general! 

I’m pretty behind on Desendi right now due to a weekend lying in bed sick, but I’m pretty confident in my ability to get the page done by the end of the week. I’ll be posting a finished Junk page or 2 in a few days, at the very least.
