Desert senna (Senna covesii), in the Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area, Phoenix, Arizona.

Other common names for this plant are Coues’s or Coves’s senna, and rattleweed or rattlebox, the latter referring to the sound of seeds in their pods.

Spent a very long day yesterday (5:30 am, at sunrise, through 8:15 pm, following sunset and moonrise) at Joshua Tree National Park, as a volunteer staffer for a photography workshop. In between volunteer chores, I’d wander about, see fun stuff, take a few photos.

The yellow bush in the top photo is desert senna. The cactus in the middle photo is a pancake prickly pear. The only reason I included the last photo is because the clouds in the sky reminds me of a “Georgia O’Keefe sky” from some of her paintings.
