Not a good photo, but I was fascinated to see this assortment of creatures in close proximity in a woody old desertbroom.
That specific plant, partway along the Windmill Trail in Coronado National Memorial, is a consistent spot for various kinds of wasps, and I have speculated over the years that they are interested in sap or some other substance on the stems. Seeing all these insects focused on the plant, not each other, reinforced that idea - but it's still just a guess.
