Rainwater collected in my desert! We get a max of 9 inches of rain per year, this is a blessing <3
Some little rock shop
I took a visit to see some friends of mine who have had this rock shop open in Tucson for I believe they said fifty years, Their dad opened it and they’ve just kinda continued the business. I don’t visit very often because it is about 45 minutes away from where I live. Sometimes I just need to drive and when I do, I make my way to them. City gives way to steep rolling hills filled with cacti and redlights no longer exist. Until the road I come down and then there is like this random McDonalds but whatever. I pull up to the familiar rusted T-Rex standing guard at the front of their shop. It looks like a dusty old building but inside, the shop is a true treasure chest. There are displays and hundreds of drawers with loose pulls and dust and cobwebs. Seems uninviting, but it’s beautiful to me. Rocks are everywhere. Fossils too and in the back interesting artifacts. These two older gents are spectacular. They’ve been around and seen it all and even have it all. I don’t know of many people who have a mummy in a sarcophagus hanging around their house or skulls of ancient Tibetan monks. Basically Indiana Jones in his older years is what I like to think of them as.
Now my taste in gems isn’t by any means simple. They have to be polished or tumbled. Something truly unique has to stand out to me in the pattern or shine. Shape is another factor. I have an interesting collection of perfect square tumbles. Luckily on this trip I did find another beautiful square gem. Of course, I have eyes like a hawk. Their raw specimens are extremely obvious. Tumbles not so much. It requires some rummaging, blackened fingernails and caked fingers to get my bounty. I sometimes am never successful, but my haul did consist of a very hypnotizing, reflective piece of citrine. And my eyes caught a brilliant piece of tangerine quartz hiding away. Then, there was this piece of amazonite. Their specimens were turning almost light blue. Lastly, a garnet. There are two other pieces. I am sure one is an agate while the other some form of jasper. Anyways, that was my haul for the day. Money is tight but they always cut me a deal.
Driving back is always a great time. I always forget while going to the shop, I am basically going up hill. I’m reminded of this going down because I see Tucson nestled in its little valley. Its an image that brightens my soul. As I finally get into city limits, the magical moment passes and I feel rejuvenated. But by now, I really, really need a drink!
28, 30, 18
28. on a scale from 1 to 10, how hard is it for someone to get under your skin?
It really depends on what they do. Generally, 7 or 8- I'm very laid back! But there are some specific behaviors that can make me rank at a 1 or 2, because I just cannot deal with them. That said, even when something has gotten under my skin, I try to just deal with it because I don't want to make a fuss. This is possibly not the best answer.
30. pick one of your favorite quotes.
“Audiences know what to expect, and that is all that they are prepared to believe in.” -Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
18. what’s your patronus?
I'll be completely honest, I've no idea. I'd like to say a Turkey Vulture, though. Nothing special- just a plain, laid back turkey vulture picking at things and nonchalantly drifting between heat waves.
Desertdruid asked me Cat, Bat, Pigeon.
Cat: What's you favorite food?
Uh, I'm also a fucker for fudge. Like, I really, really dig good fudge. It's fucking great. Make me fudge and I will love you forever.
Bat: Which part of the day/night you enjoy the most?
I don't particularly mind dusk. It get pretty and the stars come out, but it's not the pitch black where I get nervous people will mug me because even though I live in the whitest part of DC EVER, I'm a paranoid fucker.
Pigeon: If you could get wings on your back, where would you go?
Visiting the various comrades I can't is an obvious answer, though exhausting. Overall though, just sort of exploring and going neat places would be cool. I like checking out nooks and crannies I've never seen before.
