When Rose first meets Rey, she finds her stunning and deeply, deeply intimidating. Not that she doesn’t have good reasons to feel that way: before she meets Rey in person, just about everybody Rose knows and loves has sung the other girl’s praises to high heaven. ‘Rey’s so smart’ ‘Rey’s so strong’ ‘so mysterious’ ‘so beautiful’ (the last one was Finn, and rose couldn’t help but resent her a little for it).

So she’s shy. Awkward. She rambles and makes a fool of herself. 

As they get to know each other better, though, Rose is astonished to find out that Rey feels intimidated by her just as much. Rose’s heart breaks a little bit when she figures it out, first of all because Rey is just as special as everyone said, so capable and generous and unbearably pretty, while Rose is just… Rose, but also because she did glean a little insight into Rey’s past and she understands. 

She’s lonely. 

And so, against her better judgement, Rose keeps trying to get closer to her. She feels the ridiculous urge to… warm Rey up somehow, to wrap her in soft blankets and never let her go. She’d feel a lot more ridiculous about it, though, if Rey didn’t seem to appreciate her efforts. 

Rey, Rose discovers, loves being held. 

And so it is that one night they find themselves cuddled against one another on Rose’s couch, watching the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie and laughing at Jack Sparrow’s antics. 

Somehow, Rey’s head slides lower and lower from Rose’s shoulder until it’s resting just over her heart--and, consequently, between Rose’s breasts. Rose holds her breath.

“You’re so soft,” Rey mutters and, to Rose’s eternal astonishment, rubs her nose against her exposed cleavage. Nuzzling her breasts. Rose could die. 

She’s about to put a stop to it because she might be a fool for love but she can’t bear much more of this closeness with Rey thinking it doesn’t mean anything, when Rey’s fingers deftly slide under the hem of her t-shirt. Tracing slow circles over Rose’s ribs. Rose’s breath itches, and Rey turns her face up to meet her eyes. 

“Is this alright?” she asks. Under the bravado, Rose can finally see that yes, yes she means it and that Rey is scared too, scared she’ll be rejected once again. 

As if such a thing were possible. 

Rose smiles and “More than alright,” she says, before bending her head down to meet Rey’s own smile with a kiss. 

As a matter of fact, nothing in Rose’s life has ever felt more right.
