All We Know Is Falling Excerpt X Nightmare

In that moment, Deshae raced toward the Tiger at such a rapid pace that Smartz barely noticed her fly by her to engage in an attack against the Tiger. Even with the help of her enhanced vision, she could barely follow the ninja-esque movements of Deshae and her opponent.  They parried and dodged one another’s attacks with such grace and beauty that to Smartz it was like watching two ballerinas parade around each other, leaping over and under each other. Deshae’s blade caught the Tiger’s claws and as her blade swung at the beast with an indescribable pace, it barely missed the flesh of the tiger beast. It was clear to see that no clear cut winner would be found with these two. Neither one had an edge over the other, with Deshae executing every move with her calm tactics and poise and the tiger beast moving with furious animosity trying to cut down the girl with one slash of his claws. Both using two totally different techniques and both having no effect on the other. They were stuck at a standstill. Then a sudden courage bubbled inside of Smartz’ heart. She figured that two fighters against one would help even, better yet, overload the odds in their favor. So with purple energy flowing all around her, she zoomed toward the battle with her fists clenched, ready to help pummel the Tiger into the concrete that once caught her sweat.

The air felt good as it passed through her second synthetic skin. She twirled in the air as though she were a dancer in a whirlwind as her enhanced vision struggled to keep up with the movements of Deshae and the Tiger in all of his magnanimous glory as he retaliated. With every one of their blows falling inches short of one another, Smartz tried to find a place that could inflict the maximum amount of damage without placing her or Deshae at risk. The Tiger’s massive swings scraped the air inches above her long hair, barely brushing her long, dark hair. Then it came down hard with its giant hands like a hammer crashing down on Deshae. Smartz thought that hammer blow to the top of Deshae’s skull would crush her instantly, and she was unsure if she would be able to reach Deshae in time to push her out of the way of the powerful blow. But that didn’t stop Smartz from pushing the limits of her powers. Tears almost jerked from her synthetic blue eyes as she soared toward Deshae feeling as though all hope was lost, but then Smartz’ whole facial expression changed when she saw a display of Deshae’s speed. Her eyes grew to the size of the moon that illuminated her synthetic beauty. She deemed it impossible for the small E-vi to dodge such a fatal blow when she had, but the impossible became reality as she watched Deshae simply whisk through the air. She quickly struck back with a vicious full swing of her blade that connected with the inside of the Tiger’s forearms. The Tiger threw its massive white mane backwards as it closed its eyes in the searing pain and howled at the twinkling stars above. Deshae retracted her large blade from its arms and twirled into a full low roundhouse kick. Her quick, agile legwork caused Tiger to lose its balance, falling slow and hard on its side. As it fell, Smartz saw her chance.
