Yesterday marked 490 years since the death of Erasmus of Rotterdam.
He died on July 12th and his best friend Thomas the year before on July 6th. He live a year without the other half of his soul. 💔

Reading Stefan Zweig's book on Erasmus, I now understand why Thomas More couldn't see Luther beyond Protestantism. 💀
Today I saw an elderly man, bald with long hair, and I thought, "Hmm, that must have been what Erasmus looked like."
Now this correspondence between Gardiner and Erasmus is sweet and somewhat funny. stephen basically wrote an essay, he really admired erasmus.
Top things I would teach Erasmus of Rotterdam:
1. The grotesque spectacle that Madrid gave to Pope Leo XIV.
That's it, that's all. Praise of Folly would fall short.
Wait a second, how come nobody told me that Erasmus was bald under his mortarboard?
