🔥 about Izaya please
Send me a “ 🔥 “ for an unpopular opinion.
Oh my god, I thought I wouldn’t get started on Izaya but nothing drives me more wild that someone calling Izaya Evil.
Now, I can understand why someone would say he is evil. Since, after all perspective and how much you know or heard about a character but even though Izaya might be one of the more popular characters in the fandom I think he can be just as misunderstood.
I will give credit where it’s due and say that yes, he certainly did not help in some situations but I think it’s incorrect to say that Izaya is evil or a psychopath or a sociopath, though tendencies? I’m not so sure, that might be true for the anime!Izaya but I don’t think it’s that true for novel!Izaya. He is a philanthropist through and through and he is very true to his own desires. Izaya is not the type of guy who would kill someone, no it’s the opposite. Of course, there are major differences between the anime!Izaya and the novel!Izaya. Such as the anime!Izaya having his assholishness uped and being more keen on finding and fighting Shizuo, which isn’t exactly true if you look at the novel since he actively tries to avoid Shizuo and his assholishness isn’t as bad.
I mean, even in the novels Izaya is just...more relaxed and introverted? And I mean if i even bring up the manga, when he deals with those girls who wanted to die he...didn’t even go through with it he? Drugged them sure. But then he gave them to Celty and told her to put them on a park bench or something since he didn’t find it fun to take them to a loan shark and get money out of them since “It’s not really a efficient way on getting rich.” But really, Izaya is more of an observer than anything else. He does have a hand in some things but he doesn’t out right manipulate anyone, he “pushes” them into the direction he wants them to go. Let alone him not getting all his information on his own, he has resources and things like that to use. So in my head, Izaya isn’t all “that powerful” but he really knows how to use and withhold information to move things along in an interesting way to entertain himself. It can be argued that if he knew that he was withholding information why didn’t he just tell the person? And I mean, considering Izaya loves to observe and study how people work why wouldn’t he in the name of seeing what would happen?
The only person Izaya would outright wanna kill is Shizuo because in his eyes Shizuo isn’t human and he was totally and willing ready to DIE just to prove that Shizuo is a monster. That’s a lot of desire and drive just to prove something.
And like I could go on about it but, in the end Izaya is a neutral party and he isn’t the bad guy or the “main villain” of the series and I think it’s often forgotten about.
